Painting Brake Callipers

Hi folks,

Has anyone painted their brake callipers on the Ibiza Cupra DSG. I have a white Cupra and
thought painting the callipers black would look quite good. If any of you have done it what paint do you suggest using which will last the longest and look the best. A glossy finish is the look I would be hoping for. I take it the brake pads need to come off before painting?

Any advice you guys have will be brilliant guys.

i have white cupra with black calipers... they look very good! i'll see if i can find a pic and i didnt worry about the pads. cos they are black already i just painted them aswell lol

I have a black Ibiza and was thinking about spraying mine a glossy black.

Would I need to dismantle the brakes or leave them on the car and just paper round them.

Got a yellow cupra with yellow on calipers...sprayed on but its so much easier if you painted it on...less hassle with the prep, and the best paint to use is hammerite

I've got a White boca with Black wheels and White calipers

done mine red,got the paint off flea bay for about 8 quid,done the 4 calipers and plenty left over,i didnt strip the brakes down just carefully hand paint with a thin brush,it took about 15mins per caliper,makes a big differnce to look of the wheels.

Nice one. Going to stick with the black. Thought I would have the hassle of having to dismantle it all to paint it but think it will be straight forward enough.

Wouldn't go to the effort of dismantling your brakes just to slap a bit of paint on them! Only if you were getting them coated professionally say at a owder coaters or something.

Tip: Put the first coat on thick and if you still have any brush lines left once thats tried and want a really smooth finish, keep a small tub of petrol to hand and dip the brush in it briefly before dipping it in the paint, this will water it down slightly and allow you to apply it that little bit smoother. Try n get your hands on a proper heatgun as opposed to just using a hairdryer.

I used hammerite smooth, No streaks or lines. Simple brush on job!

I've got a 5month old track grey 1.2tsi ibiza... was considering painting my calipers red... however someone suggested a dark purple (one of my favourite colours). Which do you think would be best?

i thought that red calipers on my cupra looked like wannabe racing brakes and didnt like it, each to their own though

admittedly... i like the look of red calipers... but i guess dark purple would be far more original....

i guess both red and dark purple match track grey... and if i try one and dont like the result i can easily change to the other colour

hi guys i was going to paint mine. did you do any prep work before hand ie clean the callipers before painting them. if so what did you use? thanks

All I did was remove the rim, brush over with a wire brush and then started to paint. Check for paint drips if your using hammerite. Leave to dry for an hour and pop the wheel back on!

A wire brush would do the job but I went a step further and used one of those abrasive wheels on mine to try and smooth the surface a bit more and this ensured there was absolutely no dirt left too, looked like brand new brakes when I'd finished prepping them
