Meh.. Testing my Blackbird yesterday and today, found out the amplifed speaker in the cradle doesn't work! Not that I'm going to be using it after next week as it'll slot into the headunit, still going to get it replaced though.

Just a quick question, is the CAN-Bus adaptor on CarAudioDirect.co.uk the right one for our model? I would link to it, but I don't have enough posts :(. (Search for CTSST001)

If it is the right one, it seems cheaper than the £85 ones, at just £59.

It does look like it, although I used a different one made by Phonocar (CLICK), which apart from being a CANBUS and steering wheel control adaptor, also does other stuff: light switch on, reverse gear and speed pulse are most significant. It's the same for many cars and audio brands, you just have to "program" it for each specific brand (press the steering wheel buttons at a specific order).

Why do I see a price of 48.99 in CAD? Does it cost 10 pounds to deliver?

PS: CAD are great. [B)]

Doh, my bad, a typo.

Delivery is £2.50 on that item.

Seems like an alternative if you don't need the other bits that yours provides.

Hm.. Have I ordered the wrong one then? Its just turned up today, still waiting on my headunit though!

I ordered the Autoleads PC910-X73.. Is that the right one?

Indeed, the important stuff is CANBUS and steering wheel controls. The others are just a given bonus. For instance, I'll never use the speed pulse or light switch on anyway (with the Blackbird I have a speed signal anyway and the 505R's screen is auto-dimming).

The reverse gear signal though is very useful in case you want to install park sensors or a camera. In these cars the reverse lights work at a different voltage when the engine is on (LINKBUS stuff) and it's nearly impossible to extract a signal without making the computer think there's an error (burnt lamp or whatever).

This was posted over HERE as well... I'm not familiar with this product, it'll be interesting if it works as it's supposed to. You'll be our guinea pig. :D

Ah great.. It looks like there are a few loose wire on this one anyway. They've got connectors at the end and look as if they should be part of one of the blocks. Will I still need another lead to connect this to the headunit?

Thats the three wires.. Surely they should be connected to one of the blocks?!

Right, they're not connected as different brands/applications use different spots for each one in the block that goes into the HU.

AFAIK the basics are:
Yellow: battery
Red: permanent (memory)
Black: ground
Blue: remote (power antenna)

Then there's the speakers, green, white, grey and violet with black striped ones for ground

and then there's the extras:

White/brown: Remote
White/orange: reverse
Black/pink: audio interrupt

The white one with the bullet connector, I'm not sure what itis for, and it'll take a while for me until I take the HU out again (I need to though, as I have to install the GPS antenna).

No mate, the black and brown plugs near the bare wires are directly connected to the HU. Those are the ISO plugs, one for speakers, one for current. You'll find that the colours of the wires going in those two plugs are as in my previous post. :)

Right, I think I get it now, you've been a great help thanks! :)

Have changed a few headunits in the past but nothing with canbus! Roll on tomorrow..
