Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone would know pipe diam's for a catch can installation on a 'BLT' engine.

The cans i'm looking at come with 9mm or 15mm inlets........guessing its going to be the 15mm one? But could do with knowing what connectors/silicone hose i'll need.

I cant get out to check and fiddle as iv broke my hand!! Hence all this shiny parts ordering and questions!!

Thanks,

Jimski

This is the area i want to catch can/blank of,

MJ has told me that the crank breather and inlet is 25mm can anyone just confirm? I've just tried to micrometer the car but its difficult to confirm the measurement due to clips etc.

Thanks,

Jimski

I had one on mine for about 3 months, it made my engine run rough! I have a blt too! I wouldn't change it if its running right! I disconnected it as I has oil in the intercooler system and needed to solve where it was coming from! Once I changed the turbo I kept a catch tank on for a bit but it didn't run very nicely!

Oh! Thats rained on my parade then! I just figured that if everywhere is caked in crap a catch would prevent it after i spend millions of years cleaning it!

Could yours have been another issue causing the roughness?

Catch can won't cause it to not run right! Removing the oil from the turbo vains and boost pipes means you are less prone to boost leaks!

did with mine! wasnt massively worse but defo made mine different hence i took it off!

if your engine is working correctly there shouldnt be much oil in the turbo anyway!

Well after 4 years of the crank case breather vapour and EGR soot/fumes and other crap its pretty manky and im assuming its the case throughout my pipework.....if i spend a day cleaning/degreasing pipework and EGR i dont then want the same build up to occur again..............

Will do mate! Its cost me £49.90 to do, will need to knock up some form of filter element but that wont be more than a couple of quid.

Couple of lads on the TDi Sport forum are venting crank breather to atmosphere on their vRS's, so its all personal preference on the catch can concept really.

Further update; eGay connective silicone hose is crap quality and basically kept collapsing on its own, need to source some reinforced/braided type oil resistant hose.

Standby for further updates!
