Put my foot down earlier and all of a sudden there was a puff of black from the rear and then a MASSIVELY loud wooshing noise on full boost and it was down on power. (no boost leaks before anyone says that..) with the 'siren' noise behind it and it's now boosting on any throttle, not jsut 2k upwards like usual.
Took it to a local VAG specialist and they confirmed the turbo's gone.
I've done a quick read up and read that apparently most companies can't ever recon the VNT units properly for some reason? I think it was something to do with lining something up or synchronising something? Not sure..
Either way, the local garage said they would charge about £380+vat for a recon unit a company called 'Turbo Solutions'. plus about 4 hours labour, so another £200 odd.
A new genuine garrett one is £720 from darkside developments...is it worth jsut getting a new one?
The way i thought it earlier is that if it IS possible to recondition these turbos properly then the cheaper solution would obviously be better.
On the other hand, or if they can't be done properly, I can buy a new one and pay the extra for it, then keep my old unit and when money allows it, that can be sent off for hybrid treatment in the future?
What's the best solution guys?
