What a nightmare!

Company I met at Volksfest called performance chips have really messed me around and I now I feel a little stupid as many people suggested that I should of gone with a more reputable company.

So...
I got in contact with superchips today and have to say they were excellent! My re-map with them is booked in for Tuesday morning and they claim I should get 10bhp. Their repuatations seems good and they are only £50 more the tin-pot company I was going to go with!

RR booked for Thursday so will be able to make some interesting comparisons!

Will update on Tues!

I got a price off a SuperChips installer on Saturday for my Ibiza 1.9 TDi and it was £500 and it was only a 30bhp upgrade!!

Yes, I know Superchips had the majority of the market for while so they could charge inflated prices.

Bit like K&N performance filters and Mobil 1. You pay for the name. Green filter and Millers oil are just as good. Good to have some competition. Should help keep the prices down.

Still think £400-500 is too much for a remap, esp when some cheaper ones will be just as good, and these companies will be built up on reputation.

As I mentioned here, Superchips charge inflated prices cos they've been around a long time and people recognise the name, so they can afford to do so. That's why it's worth shopping around.

Hi all,

Literally just got back from work and had my first experience of my re-mapped car. Cannot fault the service today - the guy turned up early was really professional talked me through everything and was really helpful. My chip had to be literally changed and the guy really knew what he was talking about. Anyway drove car back and typically didn't get a chance to unleash it full pelt but really noticed the difference in driveability. The revs were so smooth between 2 - 6 revs and there was some definite extra pull. I was told to take it steady for the first 50 miles or so and will do. Getting rolling roaded on Thursday so I will get the real bhp increase!

The other company still have not called me back cannot wait to tell them that I got it done with another company.

If you are asking what a rolling road is, it's basically two rollers rotating in THE SAME (anticlockwise) direction about six inches apart. In between sits the drive tyres (depending on whether front wheel or rear wheel drive). Or you can get two sets of rollers for 4wd vehicles.

The operator then just drives the car to whatever speed/rev range he chooses to take a BHP and torque reading at, and applies a load to the rollers which gives the required figures. Usually taken in fourth gear if a five-speed.

It's a way of measuring the output at the wheels, and then this can be calculated to that at the flywheel allowing for friction, losses through the gear box and drive, etc. A fan placed at the front helps keep the engine cool as the car never actually moves (unless you are unlucky enough to have one jump out of the rollers which nearly happened to a Mark 2 Escort I once had).

That's basically it!:)

quote of just over £200 from p-torque in wolverhampton, can take my 1.4TDI from 75BHP to 100BHP and increase the torgue to 250NM :D seems good to me

I just got a quote from p-torque in wolverhampton regarding my 2.0 sport ibiza and its £275 in all, it includes a full diagnostics. The results i'd get were - 11bhp increase and 19nm torque - don't know where it's worth it! any suggestions?

James

i've had mine remapped by Will @ P-Torque, top bloke! :D

very impressed with the results, serious value for money! ;)

had it done a month ago and all is still good! :D

i've reccomened him to a mate with a Leon Cupra who's gettig his done in a few weeks.

not just power increase is gained from a remap its also for drivability and mpg too ;)

my car drives so much better now, very smooth power delivery and my mpg is noticably better on the 18 mile commute to work!

mpg not so good on an empty road , my right foot can't get enough of that torque!

BTW, no clutch slip! :funk
