You have never seen the type R version then? Pretty amazing car, 180bhp from a 1.6??

New shape Corsa VXR. 1.6 turbo - 197bhp standard. You can get a genuine Vauxhall remap (from Vauxhall obviously) for £600 to take it to 220PS (217bhp). Not bad for a 1.6 either!

That's because it has a turbo  the 9 is N/A and with them running a turbo it's more like 240+bhp, but yer its reasonable :)

Take a test drive in both and make your own mind up as they are two totally different cars that use totally different driving styles. What interests me is why you are thinking of going from one extreme to another in cars? People on the Honda forum are bound to say stay with a Honda same as Seat diesel drivers are going to say get a diesel. I have owned a Seat Ibiza PD160 and it was and still is in my view the best FWD diesel you can buy if you want a sporty diesel. A friend has a Civic type r which is a nice well built car that handles very well but there is no power in my view unless you are screaming the nuts off the engine. Both cars have their good and bad points you just need to work out which car suits YOU and YOUR requirements/expenses etc.

Interesting read about the Audi in the feature. I presume at some stage you had the cupra around 200bhp 300lb-ft before it got took up to 240, how did you find all that torque through the front wheels? Not all people on the honda forums agree that a 9 is the best choice, most, but you'd be surprised i think. Your view about the no power low down is one of many reasons im thinking of changing. The cupra offers cheaper running costs, an easier drive, more comfort/luxury, greater performance on some of the kind of driving i do & less potential modifications to blow my money on to gain minimal performance (spoon, mugen, buddyclub, dcsports, greddy, seeker, hks, tanabe, jun, skunk2, mfactory, toda etc parts are big money mostly). In coming here it hopefully gives me a better insight :)

You can still blow ALOT of money on tuning diesel cars bieleve me mate. The Ibiza PD160 is a good sporty diesel that comes factory fitted with most bit needed for more power if you feel the need like a huge FMIC, AP four pot 312 mm brakes and a bullet proof engine and gearbox. The only weak part is the clutch same as the whole of the VAG diesel range but for £700 you could have a organic Helix or Sachs clutch fitted which will hold all the power 99.9 % of modified cars will produce easily. Peak power and torque is around 3-4K rpm so you are never far from the power band. Insurance is a bit steep on the PD160 Cupra compared to most diesel cars so you might want to check that out.

Yes totally agree, but compared with the minimal gains you get on the N/A b16, b18, k20's from the honda range your money generally goes a lot further on a diesel. Insurance isn't a problem, im 23 and already had some reasonable quotes. My EK's group 15 anyhow :( I need to look into the clutches, the slip you get on standard around 290-300lb-ft sounds slightly dodgy :|

Never had the Cupra running at 200bhp either as it went from 160 bhp to 230/240 bhp hybrid VT2 conversion then had propane injection plus a few other mods and takern to 260/265 bhp before i had a little incident on the way to work which dented a few panels on the car.

Tuning anything N/A is exspensive with little gains unless you get a turbo, supercharger or throttle bodies fitted. Personally i would buy a N/A car but a Civic with a turbo or supercharger would be fun maybe look at getting that done to your car rather then trading in and buying another then tuning the new car which you will end up doing if you stay on SCN as it`s full of bad people trying to get you to tune your car on here.....
Changing the clutch on VAG diesels is a very common thing and any garage should be able to do it as the upgraded part are the same design and fitment but with uprated parts fitted. Once you have an uprated clutch fitted you have nothing else to worry about.

ouch :( i think the best thing i can do is to book a test drive unless i can find someone in the area with a re-mapped one willing to take me for a spin. Clutch and re-map i'd prob be looking at just over 1k all in then?

car tax on a new civic is going up to £455 in 2010 whereas a 1.9 cupra will be sitting at the £120ish mark! remap up to near 200bhp and your close to the civics performance with at least 40mpg giving it some!!!

£455 is a bit of an exaggeration! £310 for a new Type R and £125 for the PD160. The diesel Cupras have loads of torque but they are quite the opposite to the VTEC engines if you are used to them. Def worth having a test drive to see the difference!

Get yoursaelf to a delaer and test drive a pd160, you will love it, then think how much more fun it would be woth and extra35hp or so to it,

yeah the clutch can slip but with a harsh map and a lead foot, keep the torque under 300lb.ft and try not to use WOT till after 2k and you will be fine, alot of ppl have done high miles with remapped 130's on standard clutches, then when it does start to slip you will have saved money to get one.

Where exactly are you, Im from Tutbury/hatton, unfortunately i havent got my Ibiza anymore otherwise i would have glady gave you a ride. Family needs etc, im now awaiting delivery of a touran 2.0 TDi
