it will always be like this, whoever own petrol will say petrol is better, whoever owns diesel will say diesel is better...

truth is and i say it again, if costs are not an issue than diesel simply cannot compete with turbocharged petrol which

- is quicker
- sounds better
- revs higher
- doesn't smoke black when you're taking off

If you do care about mpg then yes, diesel is a good alternative (although PD170 in particular seems to be not the best VW engine ever designed...)

I've just went from TDI (PD130) to TFSI and there simply is no comparison between the sheer enjoyment of driving...

Quicker - By a second? Fantastic, getting places a tad quicker - Is tfsi quicker in low gears?
Sounds better - Hmmm, yes, agree there
Higher Revs - Petrol rev dial has higher numbers (To quote Spinal Tap 'my dial goes to 11')
Black Smoke - Not in the Leon TDiFR

As for enjoyment, I drove both the tfsi and tdi FR's at a Seat Track Day and found the FR TDI much more fun in low gears, with the tfsi appearing a little slow off the mark.

Being a petrol head, I originally ordered a tfsi FR, but the thoughts of fuelling this for 25k miles per year forced me into taking the tdi FR, my first diesel......! Whilst not originally comfortable with this idea, I can report that two years after buying the car, I still have a big grin on my face everytime I drive, plus the bonus of £160 tax, Low Insurance, halfed fuel costs etc.

However, If money was no option, I would be having the fastest Cupra money cound buy.

In summary, they are all Sporty Seat Leon's, the best looking car on the road and happy to be in the family.
