Pilot Green (fuel saver, better performance=magnet)

I was watching QVC the other day and in the car section, they were selling a device called a PILOT GREEN. It's basically a magnet which attachs around the fuel line going TO the engine. It's a fuel saver, but also helps to improve performance etc. I don't have the leaflet details with me unfortunately, fits all petrol/diesel cars.

Anyway, they were selling them for £30, but I found loads of them at the QVC Outlet Shop in Birchwood Shopping Mall (Warrington) for £15 with 30day refund guarantee.

Is this likely to work, or a con? I've fitted it I assume to the correct pipe (question below). You fit it as close to injectors as possible.

** TDI owners, which is the correct fuel pipe TO the engine? I have a black pipe and a clear pipe. I've attached it to the clear pipe. Correct? ***

Warmed the engine up and booted it around. I *think* it feels more responsive. Not sure if just psycological (sp?) or not? I could have it attached to the wrong pipe. If I have it does nothing....

For £15, bit of a bargain and I can take it back it find it doesn't work. If it's likely to cause problems it will be removed straight away.

My Dad has also bought one and installed on his new Ford Mondeo 1.8(petrol). He's been running Shell Unleaded/Optimax, but last few tanks have been normal Shell unleaded. He initial thoughts were it *feels* like running with Optimax :)

Your feedback appreciated

ok, take 1 tank of regular fuel and tell me whether you get any more miles out of it than normal?

Sounds a lot like those ecotech things that were ripped to shreds a while back - noone uses them any more.

i wait with baited beath.....

If there was such a device that could enhance performance and give you better mpg, I would have thought for £15 the car manufacturers would be bolting them on as standard.

Just having a "placebo" effect I'd imagine

It's all al load of rubbish. A mate of mine used to sell the ecotech things and was told by the supplier that they served no purpose other than to make money. They blind you with science by saying it aligns the molecules or reduces emissions.

As neanderthal said 'If there was such a device that could enhance performance and give you better mpg, I would have thought for £15 the car manufacturers would be bolting them on as standard.'

Save your money and by some fluffy dice (you'll probably get better fuel economy as you be too embarrassed to go out driving!)

They had something aobut this sort of thing on watchdog (yeah, I know....) recently, as some people had put loads of miney into a company which made these things and the woner bu**ered off.

when they looked at the magnet, it wouldnt even hold a metal Yale door key, so the magnetic effect was minimal anyway.

Some boffin then came out and said it was a load of cr*p, and that you would beed an EXTREMELY strong magnet to have the slightest effect.

I think he likened the properties of petrol's molecules as being similar to that of water - and have you ever been able to affect water with a magnet??

Avoid....... (IMHO)

Just the feedback I'm after, both good and bad. Still got 28 days left to return. So I'll have a drive with it in, and see if I notice a difference.

Keep it coming, might actually find someone who has one.

Erm yes!

Erm, water molecules are polar, so you can twist them with a magnet, although the effect is tiny. However, magnetic devices (usually electromagnets) are used to reduce furring (limescale deposits) in central heating systems and they do work, have a look around the web for evidence.

As far as improving fuel economy with magnets I'm not so sure. My mum got stung by a company I forget the name of now, run by a Mr McKeown. Lots of flashy conferences and science, got people to buy £3000 worth of the things in green rubberised plastic and then buggered off with all the money. whether or not it works, £30 or even £15 is a lot for a magnet!

My advice, open up a broken hard disk drive - you'll find some incredibly powerful rare earth magnets in there, and fixed them on either side of your fuel pipe for free!

Wow. Thats an old thread and just realised I never updated it. Just to confirm both my Dad and I have them installed on our cars. My Dad only asked me if I'd noticed any improvement about

Now, my driving style changes depending on the mood I'm in, so very difficult for me to judge, other than motorway cruising (~80mph) which is generally constant.

My Dad however, keen on getting the best fuel economy out of his car (within reason), his driving style doesn't change. He keeps accurate logs.

So after 3 years of use:-

Me (Seat Leon TDI110) - driving style, fuel type, fuel additives, a bit of stealth and it's impossible for me to confirm/deny any improvement - too many variables!

Dad (Ford Mondeo 1.8i Zetec) - same driving style, Shell std unleaded (Optimax used for a couple of tanks last year - figures removed for fairness).

According to my Dad's figures, his fuel economy has improved *slightly* by a couple of mpg. Not the figures the manufacturers claim, but he has noticed an improvement.

I consider that yes it does offer some improvement to fuel economy. It will offer nil to a very small performance increase. However, you will only notice if you drive a constant fashion. Which, for me is far too boring (sorry Dad!)
