Please help a newbie - non start -VAGCOM

Hi. My family and me have had quite a few VAG motors over the years (A6, passat, Octavia, 3x T25, splitscreen, Jetta, Mk1 clipper, 2x Mk2 and a 2x mk3) and my mum has recently bought an Ibiza 1.2 3cyl 2004. Great little car in bright yellow! Unfortunately its developed a problem.
Mum went to start it one morn and it was turning over but not firing. I went to have a look and my first instinct was that it was the starter motor slipping due to the sound it was making. I tried bumping it down the road but it didn't want to know. Not sure about these 3 cylinder engines as they do sound very different.
I've since bought the Vagcom lead from ebay and have downloaded a program from Rosstech. The EML has apparently flashed on a few times but very intermittent. I noticed once and this was when engine was cold and weather was very cold also.
Here are the results of my scan.
Hopefully somebody on here will be able to see if any of these components are likely to stop the car starting or whether its something more serious. I started to wonder if chain had jumped and put timing out?

Going off your information, I would be expecting the light to have been on because of the coolant temp sensor fault that is stored.

And the none start fault certainly sounds like a possible timing chain problem, especially given thesound it was making when trying to start it. but, obviously without hearing it it would be hard to be completely certain.

+1 Also, clear the stored faults and see if they come back, though you should be checking the static timing now before turning it over any more. There will be a guide on how to do that either on this site or on www.briskoda.net Fabia section.

Thanks for your input guys. I'll clear fault codes and rescan it. Also I'll replace the coolant temp sensor. I'm a member of Briskoda forum already because of my Octavia so I'll tap into that as well.

well....it needs an engine. A mate has taken it out and investigated. The chain is still complete but one of the bolts holding a chain guide has sheared and caused the engine to self destruct.

Anybody have a replacement AZQ engine knocking around please?!

That is very bad news, although it does seem to happen too often! If/when you get another motor, first job MUST be to make sure that it has the timing chain etc update fitted, if not you should update that area BEFORE using it.

From some of the trade guys that post in these forums, while timing failure does happen to a few cars, in the main, it does not cause engine damage, just bad running and/or starting.

Any attempt to tow start a car with suspected timing issues MUST end up in this mess if the chain and/or its damper has an issue.

Unfortunately I did try to bump it down the road as I thought it was a starter motor fault. I've been looking on ebay at 2nd hand engines and also timing chain kits to fit to any engine we buy. How would I know if they are the updated version or not?
