Pretty much! Like I say, they're pretty reasonable anyway, but I'm there all the time, so if they know you've been recomended, it'll make it a bit easier.

Let me know if you're stuck for a plan, there's been loads of advice on here already, and I don't want to advertise all over the place on here. Not my garage (I work in IT for E.ON!), nothing to do with me, they're just good, but being that I've a low post count, don't want it to look like I'm advertising!!! Just let me now if you're stuck.

Cool! Cheers again for your help!

Yes it is normal for turbo engines to drink a little oil, my clio used to use a bit and that was a 55plate at 24k and non turbo. Best hose to take off is the lower intercooler hose as thats where the oil will gather, also check the charge pipe. As said mate, if its had a diagnostic check and no problems, no lights, coolant fine, running ok and not using excess oil its fine, has the cambelt been done? More than likely the garage is trying to get money out of you. id check if mine has a bit of blue smoke but i cant as its in 10000000 pieces.

The charge pipe as in the metal one that runs to the turbo its self? l've got someone coming round to do a VAGCOM on it Monday, but l've not had any engine lights come on what so ever! The cambelt was done during the 60k service and its just ticked over 94k now, so l can't see that causing any issues.

Fair comment about the garage just trying to get cash off me, but they didn't even try and quote me for looking at it, just simply put it as an advisory with the MOT papers.

i cant see vag com bringing up a turbo fault as not heard of this before,. reading through this post i had same problem as you an rulled out stem seals by getting the engine up to temperture an doing some engine braking an as didnt have oil coming out if exhaust ruled that out also if was stem seals been told when start up in morning will get a big puff of blue smoke as oil would have seaped through the perished seal. am i reading right that your only getting blue smoke when leave engine to idle for a min or so then rev the engine high? also a bit of oil in the tip is ok as your breather system goes into the tip so a small amount of oil will be present, how do you no the car is going into limp mode? do you have a boost gauge an if so what boost you getting? a garage will do a no of tests to see if its the turbo thats gone, will be ok to drive for a bit but will get worse over time, wherew in the midlands are you?

If the car is going into limp mode then it is going to log a fault on vag com isnt it, if it was burning excess oil as said the HC would be higher than 24 due to the oil being burnt. Personnally i think hes worring over nothing, no symptoms of a blown/faulty turbo have been said.

Funny you should say that...l was reading your posts earlier!

Ok...........l wouldn't know how to test for it being the stem seals but going on what you've just said, l'm not getting oil come out of the exhaust but l am getting a sooty build up with a little bit of water in the tail pipe and l'm not getting any big heavy buffs of smoke full stop at any point. As l've just said, l'm not getting any big buffs of smoke but l seem to be getting white smoke with a blue mist (but not massive, excessive amounts) with a horrid smell to it which increases if l rev it hard once the engines warm'ish. When l say limp mode l mean as in it feels like the engine is holding back from powering up, but l don't know for sure that its actually 'limp mode'. Just used it as a descriptive term.

l'm in Nottingham and only ever used 2 garages, both of which f:censored:ked me around, so l don't really know where to take it with out the risk of being screwed over again although a few people have come up with suggestions/recommendations for me which l'll check out. Thanks again guys!

As l've said guys, l don't know for sure that its going in to limp mode, l've just used that term to describe how it feels. Also...l've not had any lights come up on the dash what so ever!

lt really is starting to appear that l may be worrying about nothing, but when you're told by a garage during the MOT test that its kicking out blue smoke and l really should get it sorted asap and not drive it untill l do..........its guna worry anyone, right!? :(

Normally coil pack failure which these are prone to, which as you say it holds back a bit made me ask. How you said its holding back is it arround 2 - 3k where the turbo comes in?

Yeah, thats exactly where it comes in! Then all of a sudden its as if it catches and then boost up and you're away! lts not all the time though, quite raely at the minute, but it is noticeable and has certainly seemed to draw some power from the car, especially when reving through the gears at speed. lt just doesn't have the 'LCR' feel any more...

Tell me about it! l've been stuck to the forum all day since the test centre gave me the good news!

Cheers mate! The Turbo Centre is certainly an option but l just wana figure out what the issue is first before l start paying specialists to look at problems that might be in other areas.
