Have experienced it a few times and it happened this morning. Flat road. Changed early from 4 to 5 at 34mph = about 1100rpm in 5th. Blipped under gentle acceleration at about 38mph. Tried several times to replicate it - and failed.

I would never consider using 5th below 40mph and deffo not if trying to pick up speed.

i have leon 1.8 fr tsi and i find it accelerating when you get to 80mph i find it then i did mention it to seat when it went in for 1st service but they say that they cannot do anything unless an error code comes up but i did have exactly the same on a previous leon and it was the throttle pedal as it is fly by wire

would barely be coming out of 3rd at 30....keep revs to 1500 at least!

To be fair guys, I did say I changed up early. I do have a gut feeling this blip thing is associated somehow with low revs and accelerating under the pressure of them.

I've been looking for this issue more and can say it's not usually linked to hard acceleration. Does seem to be linked to going from no pressure on the 'go' pedal ( ;) ) to increasing pressure but it can be a very gentle pressure.

Can happen anywhere in 1300-2000 rpm range.

I get a loss of power at exactly the same point when going over a particular bridge ...i am positive that it is the traction control reducing the power to the wheels due to the front end being unweighted and its sensing the wheels loosing traction.....exactly the same reduction in power if you go round a bend in in 3rd ( for example) gear and floor it....certain death without traction control...but with it the loss of traction is detected and power is reduced to the drive wheels and as a result the car goes round the bend at the maximum speed without loosing grip on the road.
I should add that you shouldn't try this unless you have an adult with you.

I've been told by a tuning place is that it's very difficult to find that spot but it's where the people do the emissions for tax so it comes in a lower tax bracket. I may be wrong

My 184 used to do it very occasionally and if I remember rightly usually on a light throttle but it was so infrequent I could never replicate it. I've driven another 184 that did the same that was fully checked over and no faults to report ... it was never an issue but the first time it was disconcerting.

Seems to be a characteristic of the engine no doubt a glitch in the software inserted by VW to keep the engine 2% away from being as good as a GTD !

My current and previous Sciroccos plus my mk5 GTI (all 2.0 TSI) all did the kangaroo from a standstill and I was told it was either fly by wire throttle not liking to be feathered (on or off) or the flywheel design.

I did have issues with carbon scoring on the throttle body on my last Scirocco so add that to the possibles (engine warning light eventually and warranty job)

Yep, mine now done over 19,000 miles and there is one road with a steep rise followed by a dip and at the top of the rise as the wheels unload I get a momentary loss of power, it is microseconds long and the power comes back in smooth as the engine starts to settle on the front suspension again. My BMW 320 di and Audi 1.9 TDI Se both did the same thing on this road.

Occasionally I can come off a roundabout in 2nd under mid throttle and instead of just gunning up to the next gear I back of the throttle before changing I get an over run and then a slight hesitation. It has happened on the BMW as well.

I don't consider any of this to be abnormal and is common to the last 8 turbo diesel cars that I have had including the above mentioned plus Toyota, Citroen.

I see it as part of the pleasure of driving to know when and how these things happen and it just adds to the richness of life.

Power dip answers

right all as a leon owner i have the fr tdi 184 with tuning box and love it to bits. The power dip you r all on about coming out of a bend and down hill is the car changing acceleration required for speed and gradient. If u pay very close attention it does opposite goin up hill. Instead of the power loss its a power gain. I work for seat main dealer and have heard of this a few times. All is ok that way so no need to panic lol. Go try it. Dont move ur foot on throttle and go from flat to downhill and u will notice it. Guarantee. I notice it more having tuning box as it gives me more fuel and a more sudden burst of power. My car puts out around 230bhp with 540Nm of torque. Loads haha. For those unsure about the box its called italian speed and cost £66 from ebay has 4 settings and if i was able to have it on race at 100% i would but 60% is all i can get it upto before eml comes on and limp mode. Sport and 100% is good enough though. Found it to be the best overall. Before box went in my average mpg was a grim 39.6 mpg and since its never been lower than 48 to 53 aroind town and thats with my heavy right foot. On a run im clearing 65mpg which is fab.

Flashing coil light is in most cases a boost pressure sensor and warranty will cover it and of course if u have a tuning box remove it before goin in as they will try an avoid paying out as its modified although if its a general tuning box that just ups the fuel pressure like mine they cant refuse it.

Another warranty job is more padding in the A pillars and new clips on door cards and one bit of padding on centre console for rattles.

Also if ur sat nav unit goes pete tong wen cold cold frosty mornings take a video and goto main dealer as this has now been figured out. I have had 5 new units and its a silly film on the face of the head unit that needs removed.

Think thats all for now will keep u all updated and informed of any other recalls or warranty claims i hear of. Take care have fun and piss all over those golf gtd 184's. And audi a3's . Leon is lighter and better lookin and we have all saved ourselves a load in wan**r tax hahaha.

Power dip again

read more. Fan goin once uve stopped. It lasts 5 minutes maybe slightly more but its the car tryin to regen dpf. Not an issue my car does it near the end of the week every week as i dont do much driving during the week. Every weekend i go for a decent drive 20-30 moles minimum and usually in 4th gear so the revs are sitting around 2250rpm at 70 mph. Works a treat. During the week on way home every night i tend to give it plenty welly on one strip of road upto 4500rpm sometimes just into the redline at 5000rpm in each gear and works a wee treat and puts a little smile on my face as i bully everyone out my way. Other half hates it but its for a good long life of the engine. Occasionally catch the same leon cupra 280 and keep up easily. I guess a daily kickin runs it in better. Its now on 23,000 miles and pulls like a train never had a sniffle of reak out the back end ever.

I've noticed this when going from flat to downhill. At first it felt weird but you get used to it. Glad u mentioned the door clips, my rear one is getting looked at on Wednesday as they've already done the fix but that one still rattled like a b***h

why cant the car just tell you its doing a regen coz if it did I wouldn't stop the engine...
Really annoys me this...

And as for that Power Loss when as folks say you are on the overrun down a hill which is what it does on mine quite often.
Previous Mk1 Leon FR 150tdi never did this... atall

Ive noticed a slight power dip in the low gears in my 184 lately. This only occurs when im in Eco mode and as soon as i change to sport mode its fine.

It would be great if it told u wen it was regening. Im toying with the idea of a dpf removal and egr delete and stage 2 ecu remap but cant justify spending the 400 or 500 on it yet. Maybe in a year time i will. The comment on the power dip in eco i really cant say anythin on eco mode. My car has been in sport mode since day one and since putting tunning box in thats been on sport mode also. I have notice that if u turn traction control off u get another wee bit more out if it. Usually find that the traction control also holds the car back that wee bit more. Good for a wee race if u can see it comin haha.

Had coil light flash on my car tonight for the first time so tomorro i will be plugging it in to otis and finding out the fault and ordering watever it needs. Have almost planted the seed to the other half that if its dpf related im gettin it removed and egr removed aswell then remap but if its the typical boost pressure sensor i will replace that.

A friend of mine has the same car and has now got the cupra 280 turbo on his and it goes like stink but loads of lag which is a put off but at the 2500 rpm mark its off with one hell of a punch. Hard to get the traction down if u ask me but fun all the same

My 184 has this issue in around 1500rpm when in 5th or 6th gear. As mentioned in the thread it seems to be under light throttle. It was concerning me as i thought it may be a fuel filter blockage so asked the question when I took it in for its first year service a few weeks ago. The SEAT mechanic says he couldn't replicate the problem but was aware that there was an air intake issue with the 2014 model in particular. Unfortunately though SEAT wont do anything until a fault code appears

Hope this helps

I have also noticed this in my 2015 diesel 184. Happens every time when cresting the same hill on the way home from work, but have also noticed it in a range of gears, speeds and across all driving modes. As mentioned it does seem to be with lighter throttle, and hadn't happened when I've been putting the foot down. Will keep an eye on it though!
Thanks for the thoughts and tips, I can see this forum being a very valuable resource!
