Problems with Warm Start, dodgy idle.

Yes I have searched and there is no clear definitive answer before anybody gets annoyed!lol.

Firstly the symptoms:
-When starting the car when warm, say when I've filled up with petrol and jump back in the car and start again the car takes fair few turns before firing back up. When it finally starts its very lumpy and when trying to pull away comes very close to stalling before dipping the clutch to rescue it. When driving its very hesitant aswell.

-As soon as the clutch is dipped or in neutral the revs stick at around 2,000rpm and don't dip back down.

-I searched previously and replaced the CTS switch with a green one. This was just a few weeks ago, i reset the code and cleared the fault. The fault coming up was showing a problem with the coolant system.

Really want to get to the bottom of this as I want to get on with modding the car!

unless thats a common or known problem im struggling to see whether its the clutch. Im thinking its warm start related if that makes sense, as it only comes after re-start when warm.

Cheers pal, had a search but it seems the clutch switch is a problem related to the car all of the time when it is gone. This literally only happens when started after being warm, and surely wouldn't relate to having a long time to tickover...

i had the same problem. My mate told me to take the car for a blast and i did and so far it seem to sort the problem

mine has started doing the same over the last couple of days, went in the petrol station for some fags and when i come out the car struggled to fire back up, first time ever in my ownership. Also this morning when i started the car it just say fired and the revs were that low the car was shaking itself to bits, i blipped the throttle and it sorted itself out. Anyone reckon this could be an fueling issue? maybe slightly flooded when it wont fire again, and under fueling on start up, would explain the blip of the go pedal sorting it out, all air and no fuel?

armo, that was the exact symptoms i had on my old 1.8T ko3s quattro a3, stuttered loads on start up and after blippingthe throttle a few times it cleared itself up. This is almost the same but the revs just permanently stick high...

my revs are hanging at 2k on first fire, used to be maybe 20 secs and it would drop to 800 but its sitting there for a good few mins now, its a strange one as its only just started with the cold, to be honest in general the car is starting to wind me up now

First thought is CTS, as that it's job.The revs are not as high as 2k though more around 1200.

just changed it maybe 3 weeks ago lee, i know the thermostats knackered would that be the cause?

Not immediately on cold start up, when it is warmed up yeah it could well be.

im saying the stats goosed, the cars taking ages to get to temp, and if i put the heaters on the temp gauge drops right down which points to the stat, i put a green CTS in so that "should" be ok

Yeah but the car will be all over the place as the temp isn't being held at 90 due to the stat being fooked

My temp holds fine, gets upto temperature correctly aswell...Still baffled at this!lol

Are you relying on the dash gauge alone?

i have the same problem guys, strange how its just after a very very cold winter! My temp gauge is on about 70 most the time till i stop and it goes to 90 but recently i put it down to cold intake... maybe not. Ive had instances x3 now of starting it from warm and it holds the revs at 2k and drops, but it wont let you pull off... stalls the car on blipping the throttle.

Id like to get to the bottom of this too...
