Hello everyone,

I sold my 2023 Cupra Formentor 245HP to purchase the 2025 Cupra Leon 204HP.
I wanted a longer electric range.
However, I don't understand the power difference between the 204HP and 272HP versions.
The electric motor produces 116HP on both models, and the gasoline engine in the 272HP produces 177HP (+27HP).
For an additional 27HP, the output goes from 204HP to 272HP.
Normally, the calculation should be 204HP + 27HP = 231HP.
If I understand correctly, the electric and gasoline engines are identical on both models.
The power difference is controlled electronically (limited for the 204HP).
Do you have any information about this?

I'd have to guess that the difference between HP on a hybrid, having 2 different power sources, isn't as simple as basic addition. For example neither car, when you just add the two HPs are either 204 or 272. 116+150 is 266 and 116+177 is 293.

The petrol engines are probably identical just mapped differently. I used to have an Audi TT and a Seat Leon with the same 2.0L TDi engine and the Leon was 30hp less than the TT but could easily be re-mapped to the same.

MIbbe they test it on a dyno to get the combined hp?

But what I know about car engines could be written in a marker pen on the back of a stamp.
