Thought I'd start this thread with the aim of expanding my knowledge a little (would be great if a mod pins it )

Anyway, as some are aware, I'm not the most technically minded person in the world when it comes to cars and engines etc. Although some of the stuff may be irelevant to me and my car, I still like to know stuff and what things do and mean. I'm sure others are in a similar situation but daren't say owt

I know a lot of the time people say "try searchin first" but that doesnt always give you the info what you need. For example, I wanted to know what a remap was about 6months ago, but searching on here didn't help that much. I know there's google and wikipedia, but again, they dont hold all the answers to your questions.

Anyway, lets crack on with the thread. Hope this comes in handy for others

1st question:

WTF is a TIP? As in Forge TIP etc? What does it do? Where does it connect etc?

what exactly does N249 Bypass do? read a bit about it but not quite sure

a tip is just a pipe that you DV and maf attach to.runs down the back of the engine. as for a n249 bypass i havnt a clue!

N249 Is a back up boost reserve for the standard dump valve. So if running an aftermarket dump valve the N249 can be bypassed

i did it a while ago and to be honest i didnt really notice any difference but alot of ppl say it makes the dv sound more crisp and more responsive

Its not much diferent really but it does make the dv run smoother

What about changing certain codes which relate to the Alarm etc.. i know on the golfs the alarm can be programmed to do anti-hijack and will beep on un-arming

you need vag com for the beeps i have it on mine beeps when i lock it and doesnt when i open it
