Rattling noise

Hey guys,

I’ve been dealing with an annoying rattle coming from the rear right side of my 2025 Cupra Leon facelift. It sounds like it’s coming from behind the trim near the small quarter glass (C-pillar area).

I removed most of the interior panels in that area to try and find the cause, but the sound still happens sometimes — though weirdly, it disappeared for a couple of days and then came back.

I also tried putting the rear seat down, but the sound is still there.

Thankfully I've not noticed any creaking or rattling in my 2025 FL yet, but any such sound can be so difficult to trace and remedy which is what you seem to have currently.

It could possibly be due to minute expansion/contraction of trims/panels during the extreme hot weather lately, then with the cooling process they contract again.

By the way, seeing as you have a Formentor it might be worth posting in the Formentor sub forum as well.

Finding the source of unwanted interior noises and rattles can be very difficult, especially if you’re trying to do this on your own while driving. Quite often the actual source of an unwanted noise or rattle is in a completely different location to where it’s thought to be coming from.

I’d recommend taking a friend or family member out in the car to help locate the source of your annoying rattle. While you‘re concentrating on driving, they can sit in the front and back of the car and even get in the boot / trunk and be a second pair of ears to try and pinpoint when the rattle’s coming from. They can also apply pressure to pieces of interior trim to see if the rattle stops; something that’s difficult - if not impossible - to do safely while driving.

Check the mechanism that locks the rear seats backrests in place. At best tape some soft tape around the metal loop.

Just to clarify, mine is a Leon facelift 2025, not a Formentor. I actually couldn’t find a dedicated Leon sub-forum on Reddit.

And yes, you’re right — heat expansion/contraction could very well play a role. It’s been super hot lately, and the sound did disappear for a couple of days before coming back again, so that might explain part of it. Still trying to narrow it down though!
