rattly abf (video inside)

As some of you may know, i went to have a look at a 2litre 16v yesterday and amongst other things, it had a rattly top end

Included in the video is my newly acquired mk3 golf gti 16v with the engine running for comparison

I'm thinking it might be the chain rattling between the cams, albeit, a tensioner and/or guide??

Your opinions please guys :)

chain is gear box end / tensioner cambelt end obviously and that sounds down the middle so at a guess i'd say cam journals as it sounds too heavy for a chain and not whirry enough for a tensioner

can you hear it worse with the oil cap lifted up ? (not righ up as you'll splash with oil) just open it and lift it a touch

as the golf shows they are not the quietest of motors anyway but the first one isn't right that''s for sure

that noisy one sounds just like mine! can you hear it from inside when driving along? cos I can! if it's the cam tensioners/rollers ect then i'll find out on friday cos my cambelt (and associated rollers ect) are getting changed. if mine quietens down i'll let you know!

Dunno if this is of any use now but my engine has quietened down a hell of a lot since having the cambelt (and all pulleys ect) changed. I can post a vid if it's any use?
