Got the car washed yesterday, took for it for a spin on the motorway, put my foot down, heard a horrible noise, looked in the mirror and saw black smoke everywhere............ouch

AA towed me to a dealer and they advise diesel has leaked into the oil. Car has only done 786 miles and they are saying now it might need a new engine. Anyone else heard of anything similar? Oh and they can't get me a courtesy car until May 9th!! Can Seat sort one out????

Bit miffed as you can well imagine................

:-o ouch, that doesnt sound good at all matey, especially for the mileage :(

tell me about it pal - wonder if I've got any rights to refuse the car for a brand new one........

How long have you had it? under a month? ifso then yes quite possibly

what about trading standards, can they offer any advice. I spoke to a different dealer to see what they thought about a few problems I had.

hope it gets sorted quickly for you though mate

i'll see what Seat say first, the 0500 222222 number has been out of order all day tho.....[:@]

does anyone have any other numbers for Seat at all? Dealer can't give me a courtesy car (!) so I need to pester them to sort something out

I'd drop them an email on their site, they'll call you up (or contact you) - they're pretty darn good if you keep level headed.

I think that you'll get a car, the dealer will just need to do what you're going to do, and speak to SEAT UK to cover the rental. Which they'll do.

lazy ass dealer, but hey....

I've used Seat Assist (AA) a couple of times now, and they provided a hire car from Europcar for 3 days, free of charge... it was all booked & car was waiting for me on arrival. The AA even took me to the rental place to pick it up.

The last time was over 6 months ago now, so the procedure or cover may have changed?

i'll see how it goes, I reckon it'll take more than 3 days to get the car sorted, especially if they think its going to need a new engine.

cheers all

Having recently been through similar with the clutch going bang, I hate to say it but SEAT UK are useless at customer care. We had to hire a car to keep mobile as no-one wanted to lend on.

I'd suggest a call to trading standards, get all the correct wording to reject it and then speak to the dealer principal of the garage that sold it to you. Tell him/her its a hire car during the repair OR they can have it back and then quote them the Sale of Goods Act. That'll get them twitching.

Good luck.

got a courtesy car!

Listers sent one from Coventry (where I got it from....I live north of Manchester) up to the dealer in Bury after a level headed conversation with Seat UK. Its only the 1.9tdi but hey at least they sorted the car out. Now lets see how long the repair takes......or if its a new engine how quickly can they get me a new car!
