Remapping the car...

There are a lot of posts on here about using different people to improve the performance of the car through remapping the ECU, be it through SuperChips, P-Torque, Revo, etc.

I would however, like a definitive answer to the following question:

When the car is serviced, what happens when they see that the car has been upgraded?
If they are told in advance, will they wipe the ECU upgrade?
Will the warranty be invalidated due to the remap?

I know that there are things like Bluefin, for example, which will allow me to add back on the remap in the eventuality that it is removed, however I'd rather not have to worry about this in the first place, especially from a cost point of view.

All answers would be most appreciated.

Dealers should inform you if they are going to flash your ECU and you should be given the choice whether to accept it or not.
If this is the case you can always say no and then get the map removed before taking it back to the dealer.
Remaps will invalidate your warranty but the dealer will not know about this from just doing a diagnostic check alone and will not know (unless they take the car for a long run)

What you want is a GIAC remap. I think it cost about £600 which is a bit more than the others, but it omes with a flash controller that allows you load back the OEM software and then reload the remap after service

Isn’t this the same as what the Bluefin does? Ie you can load the remap or the original map anytime with the bluefin deceive.

The only problem I know is that it doesn’t reset the flash counter/s so even though all the values can be reverted to there original value its still possible to know that the ecu data has been changed.

What i am not sure about is if there are many flash counters ie one for each page / certain areas or if just an overall one.

Any information anyone has on the flash counter/s would be great to know.

You need to speak to the forum user 'blade'. It was his K1 that I went in and he explained how it work. He simply turn the ignition on and plugged in the flash drive - I's also more than sure he said that it totally over wrote the ECU so the flash counts did not change.

Ive been told thats how the Revo select works also, its not really a remap as it replaces everything so it does not affect the counter as it is not flashing the ECU.... if I sound like I know what im talking about I apologise as i know nothing!

I would be interested in how many people actually declare these to their insurer?

What you need is our stage 1 map and a Select + Switch. Plug it in and turn to stock, leave the dealer and put it back into performance mode in seconds! Or put it into one of the three modes that you can set yourself to match your needs. (cd and usb cable supplied to set your settings to the switch) No uploading new maps or stock maps to the car every time, they are already there after the flash! just switch between settings. It also has anti theft too so even if someone takes your keys they wont be taking your car! £499 + vat for the map and a £250 Select + can be yours for 99+vat within 28 days of having our software!

Still not sure? try our 5 hour free trial. Then you will be!

If you loose our map to a dealer reflash then Dan is right, you can get the Revo map uploaded back onto your car at your Revo dealer. And yes, it is free! And yes, the reflash counter is reset when our software is uploaded, so no problems there either!

Sounds good

Can you confirm by retuning it to stock it’s undetectable by a dealer / seat that the car has ever been remapped?

Or

Is it that the values used when switching to stock just make the car drive like it’s an unmapped car and as the car drives as normal, a dealer shouldn’t suspect anything especially as the flash counters won’t have changed?

I am following this post with interest, as Maximus has asked the questions I would want to know. I do not wish, under any corcumstance, to invalidate my warranty, so knowing that there is a way to remap the car, but it go "undetected" as it were, appeals greatly.

All I want to know it, can I have the car revo'd, and my dealer not revoke my warranty?

Also, Martyn you mention the Select Switch for £99 but when I choose it on the site it says, with my PD140 it would be £149. Which is correct?

Thanks

if you want to be able to change the maps on your car, i would reccommend an st3 box. i got mine from CC tuning (not custom code) and i can flash my ecu (takes around 5 mins to change the maps). they gave me an eco and fast road map as well as being able to keep my original.
pm me if you want more details

What a sales pitch!!

Where bouts u guys based, I'm keen to hear the previous question answered about the fr - I have a 2.0 TFSI and I'm curious as the gains and wether it's the same mapping as the cupra's. Also (and probably due to my severe lack of engine knowledge) concerned that the extra power will cause understeer...

Details of main office here http://www.revotechnik.com/contact/index.aspx

Links to your car are here http://www.revotechnik.com/products/softwareProduct.aspx?pvID=597

Basically 255bhp and 285ft-lbs of torque is possible with a remap according to their site.

Understeer is going to have a lot more to do with your suspension set up and they way you drive rather than how much power your car has. Its a word used by Journos excessively, but in answer to your question, if there is more power and you use it all at once when cornering, then there will be a fair chance your car will want to understeer more than it might do now with standard power.
