Removing headunit!!!

I have a new Pioneer double din headunit and wanted to take the original HU out.

I made the grave mistake of asking Halfords to remove my headunit. The young lad broke the plate that surrounds the screen and still could not get it out!!

Does the unit come out as one big lump? Im confused lol...

Has anyone got any pics or advice?

I have searched other threads but cannot find the answer.

Yeah it does come out as one but they are quite fiddly.

If they have bust it get them to replace it, they should love the £700 BILL...LOL

You need four radio keys and a plastic wedge, two top two bottom and the whole lot slides out.

Have you got the new surround to fit the new double din unit?
there are 2 versions so make sure you get the right 1.
if you are not sure there are plenty of threads in sere motors corner of this site with part numbers and prices.

and the finished article should look something like this

Hi Rob,

Thats the same headunit as mine!

I ordered the facia from seremotors and told David which HU i had so im assuming he has sent me the right one with any luck.

Im going to try the dvd case trick to remove the radio.

Your paying for the cockup made by Halfrauds?!!

They should replace it, thats why they have insurance

Yeah i'm going to go back there today and complain! The lad had the cheek to say "well you've got a 3d look stereo now" at which point i told him to get the f%$ out of my car adn dont touch anything else!!

its a really great unit i used the dvd box trick , did the job.

sounds even better when you add these

Mate what did you do with the green handbrake wire. I got told by the guys i got it from that you just need to earth it or put it to ground and it wont turn off the screen whilst moving.

I looked on You Tube and saw a couple of vids showing you needing a switch to link the handbrake wire out...

Ive ordered a remote adapter so i can still use the steering controls, do you still use the steering wheel or not?

when i fitted the dvd in the golf i just run the wire to earth and didn't go anywhere near the handbrake.

just screw the handbrake into the back of the headunit so it earths out Halfrauds are :w4nk: id rather do it myself!

just joined the green cable to the earth and voila
yes i use my steering wheel controls
