Guys,

Just about to get my car serviced and was wondering if it's worth replacing the air filter with an aftermarket panel filter (green seems to be popular) or save some money and go for a CAI and if so which one?

Cheers:worship:

CAI will definitely give more noise, but any power gains are going to be fairly insignificant.

I'd take the panel filter... this is only cause I'm not a big fan of 'louder' induction kits. I got my Green panel filter a few weeks ago, no noticeable difference in speed or sound (didn't expect there to be either) but it's piece of mind as it's a lot better quality than the standard one (my standard one was absolutely filthy so seemed a good time too) :)

shameless bump but could always buy my ram air kit i got for sale ;), just noticed you haven't said what car you've got.

think its pretty split down the middle on peoples opinions, some choose a cai, others choose a panel and derestricted / smoothed air box, the latter obviously been the cheapest option

The only real thing i noticed was the pickup over 4k was better than with the paper filter on. I then later on smoothed the air box and found it did nothing at all performance wise

Ive got a KN tYPHOON, it had got a better respone and you hear the DV! quiet loud!( ment the DV)

Cheers

Not really bothered about more noise. Better induction flow and throttle response are the main concerns really.

Would this lead to me getting a green panel filter and some large bore induction ducting?

Thanks for the help so far guys.

If flow is the priority, you have two good options, one from each camp...

The BMC CDA enclosed induction kit is one of, it not the best aftermarket filters for flow rate. It's not particularly loud - although louder than stock - and isn't as prone to heat soak as other filters. This is quite expensive though.

Or,

You can smooth your air box, fit a green panel filter and some large bore (80-100mm) ducting which gives very good results that are comparable to the BMC CDA and better than many induction kits. Heat soak isn't an issue though and you keep a semi-stock look. Induction noise will be a touch louder, but not a great deal. This is nice and cheap though at well under £100 all-in.

Cheers for the advice everyone.

Off to peruse some shiny bits of kit now:rolleyes:
