How do you do a reset? Is there an easier way than disconnecting the battery for 30 mins?

Is there anyway to tell that it actually has reset, if that makes sense?

Does disconnecting the battery lose any other settings, i.e. do you need to put the radio code in etc?

You'd have to put the radio code back in.

It does clear all of the adaption registers in the ecu without a doubt, so it will definately be "reset"

Same if you get a de-cat done. My battery had been disconnected to fit HID's and hardly drove it before taking it in for a decat the next day. I think the ECU was still learning with a Cat fitted when it got removed. Car ran like pooh for days, and then once the ECU was reset it went well.
I was never happy with the cat removed though, so it's back on again.

Why's that mate?

I personally felt it lost a bit of grunt (3rd gear was most noticable) although it did pull slightly lower down the rev range. I know of a few people who have had great results (unclefester being one) but for me it didn't seem right.
Also i have early starts in the morning and leaving the car running on a cold morning left some nasty smelling fumes around the house.

Done mine today, although the unit thet fitted my towbar with went off on a wobbler when reconnected bat, beeped like mad, pulled the fuse and replaced, it reset itself (a beeper was fitted for lights on trailer). def pulling better i think, am using full range as was mentioned above so will just try it again tommorrow on motorway!

Then will the ECU not adapt from its already stored parameters? i.e. not give the full extreme ranges available to you if you just thrash it? hope im makin sense here, dont know much about it, just on the principal of computers and such.

Wont just thrashing the car a couple of times make the ecu learn again?

I think it generally works better if you reset the ecu and start driving from scratch. If your car has learned to drive moderatly over a few thousand miles it would take longer to recognise a new driving style and adapt a bit slower.
If you reset it and drive it hard from scratch, it should learn that new style from the start. Thats how i understand it anyway.
