Electronic Pedal Control - EPC and it means you have drive by wire
 
On the main stalk there is the large on/off switch. At the end is a rocker switch. If the main switch is off then nothing happens when you use the rocker. If the main switch is on, then when you are at the speed you desire, then you press the bottom rocker switch (labelled SET) and this activates cruise control. You will stay at this speed (going up or down hills) unless you: Turn the main switch off, or press the clutch or brake pedal.

Whilst in cruise mode, you can tap either rocker switch to increase/decrease the cruise control speed. Pressing the accelerator pedal whilst in cruise mode will obviously increase speed, but if you release it, it will settle at the last stored speed (until cruise if stopped with the switch/clutch/brake).

And finally, if you do break cruise control, then as long as you havent switched the main switch to off, then pressing the top rocker switch resumes the car to the last stored speed.

I think I've covered all the bases. Oh and it will take a while to get used to the fact that indicating is super smooth because of the new stalk :)

Dammit, I have been doing it wrong the whole time! No wonder why I could never set it easily. I thought you had to hold the switch to the left to set the speed, not hold the bottom of the rocket thing!

Well, at least you can use it now :) and you dont need to hold it, just tap it and let go and that should be fine. Just dont fall asleep in the mornings if you are using it on the motorway :)
 
when the speed is set i could do it fine- just push it over quickly to turn it on. but didnt realise that i was setting it wrong. but saying that, i seem to be able to do it fine all the time now, but holding the switch left for a second or two. how come that works for me? i swear i read the manual right too, just always thought it was a little fiddly.

Hmmm... I know that there is an older and a newer stalk and the buttons are laid out differently between them. Have a look at the pic below, which one do you have. I have the newer stalk and maybe you have the older one as that seems like it uses the large button to resume CC?

Yup, just realised when I got in my car mine has a different button lay out. Is an 04 plate and came with the car. Ah well, I will have to keep struggling on! It is amazing when you have it set though!
