Retrofit high-beam assist on a Cupra 290?

Hi,

Yesterday I bought a DSG FWD Cupra 290. I'm really happy with it so far.
I can't find high-beam assist or lane assist so I don't think I have it. But I do have the radar for ACC and it looks like I have the cameras (see picture) in the rear view mirror. I don't know what they are used for on my car though. Is it possible to retrofit, lane and high-beam assist?

Those are rain & light sensors.
You need to install the camera and replace your windscreen with the one that has the clear upper area for camera.

Thanks!
That's unfortunate. Is high-beam assist worth it? That and the reversing camera are the only options I will miss having.

I find it pretty useful.
I like having such electronic toys in my car, even if I don't use them much, anyway.

For the rear view camera, you might consider something like this.
I also retrofitted that one and pretty happy with it.

you can also change the mirror to one with a built-in camera of the high beam assistant from Golf VII > 3G0857511AE (frameless with assistant) cover no 3G0858548A
you only make a CAN cable for it, encode and it works

Is that a original Cupra camera? What kind of installing cost should I expect?

That looks really simple. Do I need new glass, and does it work like OEM?

in total, replace the mirror, pull the reverse cable from pin 3 of the mirror and wrap it with insulation or put it in an empty unused place.
you need to make a cable to connect the mirror with CAN Extended and connect
pin 3 of the mirror to CAN H Ext pin 12 (orange with a gray stripe)
pin 8 of the mirror to CAN L Ext pin 13 (orange with a brown stripe) to the cube in the driver's doorstep (probably a black cube or white - you will find the colors of the CAN cables) and that's it for the cables.

later coding..
1. add the mirror (20) in the gateway installation list (19)
2. code the mirror controller (20)
3. code central electrics (09)

If everything is fine, you must press the indicator switch once as if you would like to turn on high beam and the High Beam icon with the letter "A" will appear

go for tests 😎

Mirror: 3g0857511ae
Cover: 3g0858548a
2 Pins for the mirror connector: 000979034E (OE VW) or 61138369696 (from bmw)
In doorstep solder to the CAN cables

Nice, ty! Perhaps the OEM way is easier but pricier?

In the original (as Seat did) you have to replace the glass, buy an assistant camera to which you need to connect more cables than just CAN, change the housing, calibrate the system, re-glue the rlfs / rlhs sensor, so it's not easier and it's definitely more expensive. while with the option of only the mirror with HBA, you buy a total of 3 elements and there is no nasty triangle on the glass :) and the HBA camera is hidden in a small mirror housing and does not disfigure the glass. choose yourself 😎

not every dealer does retrofits you have to ask individually

You are right
My dealer will do the reversing camera retrofit. 1000 euro. Not sure it's worth it.

haven't asked about the lane assist retrofit. Is it good or just annoying like in my M140i?

1000 euro - a lot. on used parts you will assemble it yourself for about 250-300eur :)
you need a camera, camera housing, camera protection (in the housing so that it does not fall out), cable from the camera to the unit in the glove compartment and encode 2 options in 5F and 76
you also need to cut a hole in the bumper for the camera (the place to be cut from the inside of the bumper is marked)

regarding LA, before I ordered my leon, I checked how this assistant works in another demo vehicle - I did not decide on this option when ordering :D

It's a lot of money, but honestly pretty fair considering the work needed. The camera is about 400 euro in Sweden. Seat won't sell it to me separately :(
So the lane assist was that bad?

Do you have any VAG retrofit places in Sweden ?

There’s a few here in the Uk that offer the full assistance camera retrofit (including the new windscreen) for around £900 giving you HBA, Lane Assist, Traffic sign recognition.
Very good if done in conjunction with the Front assist to ACC retrofit which costs around £400.

The HBA only (via rear view mirror camera/sensor) retrofit doesn’t seem to be offered anywhere.
I looked at it once but when weighing up costs ~£400 then having to try and work out how to do it all, it didn’t seem worth it just to have the lights go in and off high beam.

Makes more sense to get the full windscreen camera retrofit done and have more features.
The camera in the windscreen is apparently better for HBA than the rear view mirror version anyway

I have the HBA as standard in my Cupra and coded to my previous Octavia VRS with Lane Keeping Assist.

In my honest opinion it's overrated - it switches on/off for oncoming traffic, but rarely switches off as you approach a vehicle in front. You can adjust the sensitivity in VCDS.

The equivalent in my 3 series BMW is far better. I certainly wouldn't be forking out €1000 for it!

Great suggestion, I actually found a place who do retrofits. Have emailed them asking about the price.

If it's worse then in my 2018 m140i, it's useless.
