I have had this problem for a while and now I have pin pointed where the water is getting into the drivers footwell, help me fix it please..

The water is coming through a bracket that sits on the side panel in the drivers footwell, just up above the bonnet release latch. I think its a drainage path from the windscreen, I have tried tightening it but its really tight already.

I have put a circle round the area but its pretty faint, sorry.
How do I sort this

hello... mine was doing that. have you got the skuttle planel off yet? if not, pop the wiper arms off, (use a flat screwdriver to get the caps off and then use i THINK a 15mm spanner.) they rarey come off easily. once off the black plastic panel underneath should just pull off carefully. chances are your leak is coming from either a poor seal around the bulkhead or where the cables pass into the cabin. just a case of using some good sealant. sorry if i've miss understood what your looking for but hope that gves you a starting point

check that water runs under the scuttle panel and reappears around the wheel arch. if its full of leaves and muck it could be blocking the drainage holes and coming in via the throttle cable grommit or similar

Its not coming in from the bonnet release cable, the water is actuall coming in from the bracket circled in the pics, the water leaks in and beeds then runs down the panel and into the footwell.

I have had the scuttle panel off and its not full of leaves and I have sealed up the cable so that water wouldn't get in there.
I was wanting to look behind the gromit where the electrical cables for the door is run, but I dont know how to. any ideas?

Defected!
Under the scuttle panel there is a sort of tray that catches water as it runs off of the windscreen and directs it to the drainage point. When it's raining heavy you'll notice a puddle at the back of your front wheel underneath where the mudflap would be, but your puddle is in the driver's footwell. I knocked mine of when connecting my boost gauge. It only pushes on and is not held on with any fixings. From above looking through the 'vents' at the bottom of the windscreen it looks like part of the scuttle panel but it's seperate, if it's come off you should be able to see.

Are you 100% sure the water is coming in from that bracket?
I had water which looked like it came from the same place but the water was getting in from a badly sealed seam in the bulkhead behind the dash, water was dripping down to the area you mentioned.

I would check to see if there is any water above the bracket you have marked.

hi, the panel where the bonnet cable comes through is double skinned and if water is coming in around that area it can travel anywhere between the 2 layers and then drips off the edge in various places, i used a airline under the scuttle panel and all the water trapped blew out all around the plate inside the car, i could not see my hole until the was cleared out with the airline-i could not see it before.

Water Leak......

Hi Mate,

I had exactly the same thing on my car took me ages to find which area it was coming in from.

The car was still under warranty at the time and they had the car for a week! They had to release the dash and seal a hole behind it. It didn't take a week to do but they broke a lot of things taking it apart and I made them replace them all before I gave the courtesy car keys back :).

I'm 99% sure that the leak was coming from a bodywork seam behind the das over in the right hand corner below the windscreen/A-Pillar area.

Its a bit fiddly to get to but I think you will need to take the A pillar cover off and release the dash to allow you to move it back out of the way to seal it with some silicone sealant.

I'm guessing that you may have to have the steering wheel off in order for you to move the dash enough to gain sufficient access.

Sorry I can't help anymore, like I say I didn't do this repair myself.

See my pics below for similar leakage!

Also take a look at this thread & picture (i'm pretty sure its the same area as mine but my car had to be sealed inside as well!):

Thanks for the replies yeah looks like its the same sort of place its leaking i'll try sealing it from outside first of all see how I get on before ripping out the dash and stuff.

Is there a guide for the dash removal??
How big a job is it?

I could get to the leak by removing the a-pillar trim and the fuse box panel and fixtures at the side of the dash. The leak was just below the top of the dash at the very right.

Thank you, will have a look, and try this, have had this off and not hard to do ;)
Easy bits first dont like the idea of taking out the dash.
