"With regards to your concerns about the rusty wheel hubs on your vehicle, I can advise that corrosion is a natural condition affected by various external factors, including the elements, which are beyond the control of the manufacturer. As it is not a manufacturing defect, it is therefore, not covered under the Terms and Conditions of the warranty. It may be possible for a SEAT-approved dealership to clean up and paint the wheel hubs, however, this is something you would need to discuss with your local dealership."
Well I never - corrosion a natural phenomenon hey!!
They seem to prevent it on the rest of the car so......
. It is a combination of cheap materials and external interactions - but it looks crap and it is embarrasing!
I have not got round to ask who would pay for the dealer to paint the hubs!!! You should see the reply to the condensation in headlights question too

Best people to phone are SEAT customer care on 0500 222222. Once a call is made they are obliged to follow it through to resolution. They will liaise between dealer and customer and we find as dealers, sometimes the customers get better consideration than we do. Re the headlamp condensation, get your dealer to take some pics and email a warranty claim to SEAT. There are new part numbers for these headlamps and we have replaced a few but only after factory authorisation. Hope this helps.
Great response SEAT :birdy:. Is it me or is the MK2 a major let down compared to the MK1. There seems to be so many little annoying issues that you don't expect on a new car.
Agreed! It does not feel like a £19K car. My 2006 Mondeo (Company Car) is much better built and cost about £17K new...I drive a Golf GTi last week from our fleet at work, and it has none of ther cheapness that the Seat gets inside it...
It is a shame the MkII looks great and drives well and is priced well seeing as all VW mechanicals, just a shame that there are these few common niggles (air vent rattle, condensation in lights, and rusty hubs) and SEAT seem poor in responding to these. I do not find the serviuce from SEAT great to be honest, they do not replace things under warranty like the lights and hubs - wondering why I let myself in for more actually but then again what compares to an FR TDi at £14000 with 7k on clock! The Mk1 was great - loved it but then again I did have coil pack problems and a turbo boost problem. At that point too SEAT would not replace the Coil packs knowing they were fragile (cost cutting) and I broke down 4 times, one for each coil pack!!! In the end I used to just get AA out and replace for £20.
In three years of wonderful ownership all i had was one coil pack oh and a Brembo caliper replaced under warranty. Starting to wish i never sold it. 
Guys dont be so hard on the dealerships, a few bad experiences doesnt make the whole network 'stealerships' !!!!! Bear in mind that almost every warranty claim now has to be pre-authorised by SEAT so our hands are very much tied. I will advise on any issues you may have based on our own experience. We are replacing headlamps under warranty but hubs still a big problem . . . . . .

I have just spoken to Seat uk and they have asked that I send a letter/report with photos of my offending hubs to them.
They have been bombarded with calls about this problem but still say its not a warranty issue. I have stated consumer law and said that the hubs are not fit for the purpose that they were designed for.
Seat state that if outside influences have caused the rust i.e. salt, grit damp and water !! then they're not covered under warranty. I said that to design a hub that corrodes after a few months of normal use is unacceptable and obviously not fit for purpose. Rust over time will corrode as we all well know.
They then argued that if the problem is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect the performance and saftey then its not their problem! Well stand-by Seat , you've got a battle old son !
I along with others do not part with hard earned cash ( in my case 19k ) to have a rusty car in any way shape or form.
3/4/08 1300 hrs I have officially declared war.
Please keep the calls going into Seat on their customer care line and at the dealers , only people power will sort this and get a re-call on the faulty hubs.
I will keep you posted , long live the revolution .

Great stuff!!! I take it your saw my reply from SEAT UK!!! They told me corrosion was natural and due to the damp weather, well derrrrr!!! Thanks for that - but it has a lot to do with the material they make the hubs from surely and they should not be going rusty - the rest of the car isn't in this "rain" stuff!!!!
Please keep us all informed and hope we can get a coordinated response from SEAT.

I have corrosion on one of my mine surprise, surprise, as you say its simply not acceptable on a new car. I havent noticed the condensation in headlight issue on this car 'yet' but one on the lights is DUSTY/DIRTY inside the lens, looks flipping great when you shell out £18k
All these issues could be easily rectified, but all make you think twice about buying another SEAT.

Yes, corrosion is normal on untreated and cheap materials including our beloved hubs as you quite rightly point out Congratulations on Seat for stating the obvious.
If Seat refuse to resolve this issue through customer care and warranty cover then I'll be taking legal action under The Sales of Goods Act , products must be fit for purpose and of reasonable quality. and Seat can kiss my rusty bullet hole !!
