I'm just struggling with the ground, thinking the body of car is no different than the ground side of the bulb. Or am I using the positive side of the bulb as ground (the reverse circuit) and then pure 12v from another source?

Can't get my brain to stop thinking it's like connecting positive to positive...
Will test!

kevster184, you are right. There's the problem with the ground shared by side and brake lights. So the best option is a relay, activated by the reverse light but sending the 12v from the socket.

4-pin relay:
87: 12v socket (pure 12v)
30: camera red wire (+)
86: reverse light (+ blue/black wire)
85: chassis ground (shared with cam black wire).

Don't worry about 14.6v tension, as any car device has to be made to support it (radio, bulbs, etc)

Starting to make a bit of sense. Never just a relay so I'd have to look in to that.

If it helps I've just tested 12v+ from cigerette lighter and ground negative of the blue/black wire.

Results:

With ignition off, nothing.
With ignition on, bulb on, no voltage
With engine running, bulb on, 3 volts

Would this 3 volts sound right and then activate the relay?

Reverse feed (I'm pretty sure it is) gives 11.6v in reverse with engine off, ignition on.
With engine running gives 11.4-11.6 variation.

The reverse light blue/black wire is constant 12v (not pure). The ground has to be taken from chassis.

Ah ok so as per my post #111 above, 11.6v with variation of 11.4-11.6 with engine running will be ok to engergise relay?

Can you please tell me why you don't want a voltage stabilizer, and go with a relay?

No problem!

It's another option. On other forums I've seen they use signal filters like this when using the reverse light positive and negative. For some users it's enough, for others not. We have to see the option that works fine in our car.

Really appreciate everyones help here :)

Kurylo, I couldn't find a voltage regulator i thought suitable and readily available.

Marlop, I have just popped in to town and come home with a pin 4 relay ready for testing.

Had enough now but will look later in the week.

If your on Instagram / Facebook this guy may be able to help https://instagram.com/p/p3-cXkC5ka/

Although he is German, he seems to also speak English

No problem!

The German guy chris recommend got back to me. He says use the signal filter Marlop put the link to. Use inline from blue/black reverse feed to camera and ground to c pillar with camera ground.

So that's 3 ways!

Found one on amazon uk :)

Did you have a chance to talk to him? Can you explain in more detail what's thar for? I don't quite understand the timed reversing bus term.

Ah that's good, I came across his account by chance then noticed he done a lot of mods inc the reversing camera so thought he might be of some help.

He said the power to the front and rear lights pulses with the engine running, this filter smooths it and stops the video from camera being interupted by interference. So really it's a voltage stabilizer.

As for the timed wording, maybe a word for pulse....

Just realised he is a member on here and has posted in this thread starting on page 2 lol.

I only read the newest posts so didn't see them originally! Oops :)

Ha, small world  . Maybe not subscribed to this thread anymore. It's the only bit missing from page 1 until i asked - where to get power.

Guys I have a question that's a bit off topic but still concerning wiring, how do u get accessibility to the Body control module under the steering wheel to connect wires to the CAN high and CAN low pins? It seems an impossible task, so is there any other way?
