Hi All,
Only posted here once before when I became a proud owner of my 03 Red AMK Cupra R back in 2015. Have always browsed the forums but never posted or commented since that day.
And now my Second ever post is a sad one.
As per the title due to a road accident my Cupra R is no more. Some delightful person pulled out in front a few cars ahead of me, everyone slammed on, but a pile up started and despite only doing around 25 mph in traffic and having the monster Brembo's I could not stop in time! Connected with the rear end of a Disco with what I can only describe as a harpoon for a Tow bar. Full on spear to the center of her. Due to this front end damage she is a goner. As is the dude that pulled out in front of everyone! Shocker aye...
Really shook me and my little 7 year old lad up! And even though a lowish speed collision, it did not feel it! I am just grateful that we were both OK and the people in the other 3 cars involved were all uninjured too.
I am absolutely devastated, she has been great fun to drive and a pleasure to own and work on. My little one misses the car also, I reckon I have future petrol head in him!
I brought her with only 37k on the clock, had 80k when lost. Had done a few normal mods like the following-
Forge 008
Badger 5 Tip
3" turbo back stainless exhaust
200 cell cat
Rear ARB
Refurbished and powder coated the Brembo's in black.
Always kept her well looked after, I had only just forgone the task of replacing the clutch with her on axle stands on the drive. You probably all know the joy of dropping the box out on these with out a ramp. And about a month prior did all discs and pads...... Got about 600 miles done on the new clutch and maybe few hundred more on the brakes before the fatal day! The financial joy of cars aye!
Had more things I planned to do sadly like refurbish the wheels etc while keeping her looking fairly standard externally. Love the way these cars look!
I really hope again one day to own another Cupra and post on these forums under much happier circumstances.
Picture a few days before having some TLC and then the heartbreaking damage after.
And that's my unfortunate story so far on owning what I felt is an absolute classic and beast of a car!
Anyways, I will be making a post in the for sale section soon. Due to the lovely insurance company offering next to feck all for what she is worth and then minus my excess, I would rather she went to other enthusiasts. I will either let her go complete for someone else to break or break it myself for parts depending on interest.
Keep on Cupra'ing lads and ladies
