I had a FR TDi at the tender age of 18, driving less than a year.....

You could always go for the "Sport" in the old range, same PD130 engine one insurance group lower, and slightly different gear ratio's but generally as quick!

I had originally planned to get a Sport, and when I rang my insurance company at the time they said no problem, they would just change the policy details over to the new car.

But when I bought the FR they didn't want to know. To make things worse I had only been driving for around 7 months and because I cancelled my policy early I didn't make it to 1 years no claims.

Nowhere Important
Im 21 and just bought a Ibiza Fr Petrol. I have Zero NCD and my price was £776, that was with elephant.co.uk.

Some companies require all drivers to be over 23 or 21 to insure it.

I work for Esure insurance which underwrites Sainsbury's, Esure, Halifax, Sheilas Wheels and First Alternative car insurance and I couldn't get staff insurance as we need drivers to be over 23.

Shop around, don't be afraid to ask the Sales Agent you speak to for a discount and play the companies off against each other as the Insurance market just now is as tight as a badgers arse and companies are climbing over themselves for business.

If you can afford it try and get the policy in your own name as you want to get you own NCD after all. And some companies will just plainly not want your business as the risk will be deemed too high.

Hope this helps, if you need anymore just PM me.:funk:

I'm about to get my new Ibiza TDi FR in the next week or so I hope (off Ted JOhnson Seat) having currently got a Mk3 TDi Sport (110bhp), and at age 31 am paying around £500 fully comp. with full no claims. The new car has increased premium slightly but no massively. Turning 30 seemed to make a bit of a cost difference for me in insurance.

Erm, yet your driving a FR! So why didnt you get a Sport in the end?

Take it you got insurance with another insurance company....

Point being the Sport is well less group thant the FR, and is basically the same car!

Cost less, as they are on a older plate, but will go foreva with it being a diesel!

Umm im considering stepping up to the 1.9TDi soon, either the 100bhp or 130bhp version, or even the FR as the fuel economy on the 1.2 is poor on the motorway to say the least.

Next year at 19 will cost me £1400 via tesco on my own comp insurance on an FR. Lets just hope i can find the ££££ for it now. T

From a few quotes I got last week when I was killing some time, I could easily reduce my premium by £150-£200 when I get round to switching to an FR TDi at some point. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Course a diesel is cheaper on insurance they arent as quick as there petrol counterparts, and they are 130bhp not 150bhp in their diesel guise. Just look on trader for prices.

I'll second that

I have the fr 20vt and my brother has the sport pd 130 and I have never lost to him yet

we have raced on every sort of road at all speeds and the 20vt is quicker and faster

the official figures back this up too!

yes the insurance and tax is cheaper and yes the mpg is better so (if you'r on a buget) get the diesel..;)

Yup :). I was still looking for a sport, but I found the FR which was newer with less miles, for not too much more. I was also looking for Ovni which seemed quite hard to find.

Yeah I had to cancel my previous insurance and start a new policy with a different insurer.

Just shows though that one IG more can make a big difference.
