Ta da!

I had been meaning to do an update to my RR. All is well, nothing new to report. Im enjoying blasting home from work around the country lanes with the Xenons lighting the way. They really are bloody brilliant!

One concern though, I seem to be experiencing a lot of wheelspin lately. To be fair I am accelerating very hard these days now the miles are creeping up. Im wondering whether I need to consider new tyres - I've only covered 4k so I don't think its wear (and it doesn't look like wear either). I think this could be to do with the power that the map is throwing out

3 letters mate L S D.......... ;)

It does make one hellova diffrence though or am I completely wrong

Depends what you are looking to do. Pulling out of fast bends (track work) will benefit. On the road, this could equate to a quick pull away from a roundabout or something without the inside wheel spinning. It will reduce liklihood of wheelspin in a straight line in lower gears on a dry day too.

Down side other than cost is that on a wet day, both wheels light up and you can forget about the abilty to steer while that is happening unless you let off. It wont help you that much on anything other than that.

Fortunately I have sense enough to drive like a sane person in the wet. I got the diff purely for 1/4 mile launches after hearing many guys conmplaining about not being able to put the power down and I will be looking at doing some track days and maybe another trip to the ring. I can't even get the power down now in stock form and still get wheel spin in 3rd gear even when trying to give it some. Could be my tires which are close to the limit from the MOT report the "wonderfull" dealer finally sent me. I have the proxies lying on the shelf here waiting to go on at some point with the new wheels.

Long time since I did an update. Generally the car is running very well, my washing regime has gone bad though due to several weekends away and bad weather. Main issue I have at the moment is that the car seems to have developed a rattle from the dash under hard acceleration - Im pretty sure its the speaker used to amplify the engine noise so will have to get it into the stealers soon. Anyone else come across this?

Pretty sure I've got the same, seems like its behind centre air vent area, ish...? Also the wee grill thing at front interior light buzzes on roads on my way to work... Murder! really does my head in, unless I hold it with minimal pressure with finger... Anyone tried removing this to fix? Prob wait till service in new year and ask dealers to make it all worse : )

Glad yer motor is driving well, mines is 'boggin' too...

D

Cheers D, good to hear someone else has the same issue if you know what I mean! I dont think I can wait for the service! Its too bad

It looked bad in real life, honest bud! Crikey its been a while since I updated this. Unfortunately nothing of any great interest to say. It went straight through its 10k service without issue, no new tyres required which was very welcome news!

I am getting prices for a wheel refurb, thinking of going gloss black or anthracite. Only thing playing on my mind is the Mk3 coming out later this year - do I continue to spend on the car knowing I could be tempted by the new model. Hmmm, decisions decisions... :)

Anthracite mate! That's where I'm headed with my FR, and I'm having gloss black B-pillar covers like the Cupra, and rear handles, and the black strip under the plate. I think I'll be happy then all but the remap eventually!

Looking good as it is though mate! You got the best colour there is! I love my speed blue!

Sold the car - fuel costs were killing me. I saw Golf GTDs were being sold discounted due to the new model coming out. So its back to a economical CR170 for me  ha ha!

I know what you mean about fuel costs mate.
I'm sure the golf will be great and if I was changing I'd go with something similar.
If you don't mind me asking roughly what px price did you get on your R.

Just under £15k. It had 18.5k miles on it so quite high mileage for age at 15months. I probably got less than I should have done but the deal I haggled on the GTD was too good to turn down. Plus I was pretty keen to get back to a CR170 again - power is good enough and its ridiculously cheap to run

I just refilled after 275 miles and that was a reasonable tank.

Enjoy the new car!

Cheers Al! Yep the economy on the R's is nothing short of terrible. Great engine though, I will miss the roar. Time for me to be an old man me thinks. I've even stuck with 17" wheels....what is happening to me
