Service light - fr tdi

Hi guys

Had the new toy just over three weeks now and its going great.

I thought I read somewhere that a service light will show up on the dash when the service is due, is this correct.

The car has done 22k now and i think it should be due for one pretty soon

Not sure about the tdi, I know that newer vw's and skoda's have variable servicing but my LCR and my old 1.6 Leon both have 10k or 1 year service intervals (whichever is sooner).

If it has been inputted at the dealers, 'service' will flash on your trip computer screen when you start the ignition. I believe that this starts 2000 miles before service is due.

If you are in any doubt whether the car needs a service check the service book, the next service date/mileage should have been filled out..

My LC started telling me it was due its serveice in 1900 miles and kept on counting down until it hit nearly 0 (I had the service done before then)

What does the Service schedule say it was serviced last?

Just turn it off if the dealers have forgot to reset it at service time

when i bought my fr tdi last year it was serviced but they forgot to reset the service countdown soo it warned me after about 1 000 miles i needed a service someone on here told e how to reset it and off it went i have never seen it again and i have covered over 14000 miles in a year and had a nother service ...strange

one of the reasons why i asked is because there was no service light flashing up when i turn on the ignition

I checked the service book and the last input was on 11/11/05 at 6234 miles

It says the next service should be on 11/11/06 at 16243 but theres no stamp for this - when i asked the guy i bought it from he said that he thinks he had it done,


He was a mechanic and may have done the service himself but would he have been able to reset the service light??

Its now on 22k and i'm abit worried about leaving it for ages if it badly in need of a service (dont think it does though)

End of the warranty is in November - its a 54 plate

Any ideas??

Get it serviced - unless he has a receipt for the service at 16000 miles then I would have a service done now.

He may well have serviced it himself and yes you can reset the light yourself, but I figure that it's better to be safe than sorry!

nope, no receipt for the 16000 mile service - will have to book it in next week for a check over

Probably for the best. Don't neccesarily go for the first dealer either, I rang a few dealers nearby and went with the cheapest (for the same service..) Also consider SEAT/VAG specialists.

Will do - I'm in cardiff and after reading a few opinions and experiences with white dove, i think i'm going to try some of the other garages in the area
