Service Options

My 06 TDI Sport will be three years old in June. I will probably keep it another 2-3 years but the 40,000 mile service indicator has just come on and I have a decision to make with regard to who carries this out. I appear to have three options:

1) Take it to the dealers (quoted £248!)
2) Service it myself (I spent ten years as a vehicle technician but of course can't stamp the book)
3) Take a chance on a local "all makes serviced" outlet

As the warranty will run out soon, is it worth paying £248 to keep up the service history given the current depressed used car market?

4) take it to a VAG specialist for £100-150.

Thats what I do, and many others on here.

proper parts
proper techicians
stamp in the book
cheap.

Bear in mind Im at a dealership
Buy genuine parts (ask for discount) as every part has 24 month any dealer parts AND labour warranty. Fit them yourself if possible - the presence of receipts is worth as much as a stamp in the book if the mileage is noted. If all the checks are carried out properly, why pay £70-£80 an hour labour???? I hope SEAT UK arent reading this
