Just got a new panel filter today, took the old one out and although it had leaves and stuff in it also had oil in it :s Im not sure if this is normal with this engine (AFK 1.4 100 BHP Sport) but it just didnt look very good to me. The old filter had about half the filter covered in oil which didnt look very good imho. Just wondered if anyone could help us with diagnosing the problem if there is one and if its supposed to be like it :S

Cheers
Daniel

ah ok, so nothing to worry about then? it did have a oil and filter change when i got it so maybe they overfilled the oil??

Hence why people fit an oil catch tank :)

Bollox to that  im not spending money on it unless i have to, got the cambelt and waterpump getting changed on saturday, will also change the spark plugs and the brake fluid changed. It ideally needs new discs and pads in the next month or two but they can wait.

I think IIRC that if you spend a lot of time on the overrun in gears ... that's when it generates more vapour.

Nowt to worry about though, i think it's to do with clean emissions - the vapour goes back in the air inlet and gets burnt off in the engine, the CAT catches the left overs that are unburnt.

So if i spend most the time over 4k rom it will through more through????

:S well not really pushed it around corners, as it scares the hell out of me as it loafs like a range rover

Its a common problem on Arosas :) Nothing to worry about hun! They 'breathe' out alot of oil, just keep an eye on it and clean it out every so often or if you start noticing a 'wandering' idle

Well think i may have found out the problem with the oil :(
Took the car to the garage to get cambelt, water pump, pullies and spark plugs change. They took the ignition leads off and found that the holes where the spark plugs are was full of oil in cylinder 1 & 2 and started on cylnder 3.

They couldnt do it then as it would have taken too long to do the whole job :( so dropped it off on monday morning for them to do the lot.

They replaced the Cam cover gasket as they think that was the problem, stuck the new plugs in, new brake fluid, changed all the belts, all the pullies ( the bottom adjuster was fooked and was rubbing on the second cam belt and was about to fook it pretty soonish they said.

So in total it cost me about £240 inc parts that i got dirt cheap through work then the labour for fitting etc.

Cars all sorted now, just need a new water temp sensor from seat and ill be done.
