Simple tidy install mk1 Leon - Now with pictures

Hello,

I am planning to transfer my amps into my new leon from a polo. In the polo I had a nice simple false wall on the left hand side of the booth with the amp mounted on it. Nothing fancy, just almost OEM looking tidyness.

I am planning to do something similar in the leon, does anybody have any ideas or photos of existing installs? Like I say, I'm not after a neon lit, chavtastic amp showing off install, the idea is to retain boot space and use and make it look tidy.

Also, how long will I need to get my wires for the install? RCAs from the headunit to the boot, power cable from the battery to the boot and speaker cables to the front doors from the boot? I'm pretty sure the cables from my polo wont reach.

Thanks, but I will need to go direct to the battery for the current I'll be pulling :)

I've been buying bits all week (can't stop spending bloody money on this car!) and will get stuck in at the weekend. I'll take lots of pictures and maybe do a guide if it would be helpful.

I've not forgotten!

I'm part way there, got most of the wiring in and made the false wall. I've got all of the bits, just need to do the doors/speakers and hook it all up!

Been way too busy with work, a second degree, a girlfirend AND mates! Lol!

I won't be finishing it for a couple of weeks due to deadlines but will post it up when I'm finished! Can't wait

Right, I've now managed to get it up and running (the sub anyway), I ran out of time last night and couldn't hook the front speaker amp up, but it is all screwed into place.

I started with this:

Those speakers went into my old car in place of the rainbows I removed when I sold it! (£20 from ebay!)

I ended up with this (I've not had a chance to hoover the boot and clean my crap out yet):

I will get some pictures up soon, it's all standard stuff really, the only different bit was my false wall. I installed it on the drivers side of the boot, using the front luggage hook and carpet pin to secure the first mount. Then removed the side carpet and secured another mount towards the rear of the car. I fed all of the wires through the plastic panel/section (the bit holding the parcel shelf) round the seat belt and down to underneath the back seat. I then connected the earth wire to a freshly drilled hole in the chassis in the boot. (there are a few already installed ground points but didn't want to make the ground too long.)

I then cut the board to fit the side profile of the boot, carpeted it and screwed it on. You'll need to mark out where you want your amps and make holes for the wires to pop through before you fix it to the car.

Then I ran the wires down the car to the head unit and battery and doors.

There is a good speaker removal guide on here (for a toledo - do a search) it shows you how to remove the door card, inner door panel etc. to allow you to install dynamat and your speakers.

Then I just shoved the sub in and connected the wiring! Overall I'm quite pleased, it looks tidy and is very secure! The idea is that the sub can be removed and I can use the car as a van with the seats down. I can also get at my spare wheel etc quite easily. Just need to tweak all of the levels and think about what new sub to get!

I know it's not much of a guide but please feel free to ask questions!

Plus I'll get the pictures up tomorrow, which will make things clearer.

Yer apart from the fact that the sub out is useless and only puts out half the voltage it should :(

Sounds nice though!

How do you mean how have I installed the sub? Just ran the wire across the boot and put some double sided tape on the bottom of the sub! Planning to get a new JL12W3 in a homemade box when the funds and time become available! I need to get a new pic up of the rockford with it's wings on covering the wiring and all tidy! It looks much better now the finishing touches have been done!

Its a rockford punch 600 4 channel bridged to 2 channels for the front comps and an mtx 4001 mono. Think the rockford is starting to give up after 10years of use though! Looking to get an mtx 4002 to match the 4001! The rockford is not stretched in the slightest at the moment so a drop in power won't matter!

It sounds awesome when the rockford is working properly!

Incase it rains and I get a wet wig....why else?

No it was when I was doing my dynamat, you need the panels to be dry and warm, and so does the dynamat to stick properly. It was a perfect fit for that hole!

I had a search on different forums and a lot of people are using that thing!!
It just a fraction of cost of Dynamat and works as good.
Tomorrow I am going to visit B&Q and Vicks :)

I used an alternative from ebay called soundX - seemed to be about half the price of dynamat. get a good hair dryer or a heat gun to warm the stuff up and it'll stick to almost anything.
