Slipping clutch - TDI Sport

Hello all.

Alarm bells...

My 04-plate Ibiza TDi Sport has 43k on the clock and today I've had what I'm pretty sure is clutch slip.

Accelerating pretty hard out of a roundabout (past a BMW 320d...) when it got to 2200rpm in 3rd and 4th gears the revs rose to 2800 and then came back down once the speed had caught up. Did it again a couple more times under pretty hard acceleration. Know what I mean? Kinda like wheelspin but not, cos of the speed.

I'm the 3rd owner of the car and I think it's had a pretty hard life judging by the mileage and some of the warranty work I've had done since January, but surely a clutch should last more that 43000 miles?!

Anyone else had similar problems, or think it could be something else?

Failing that, it'll be going down the dealers this week. More expense!!

More expense? Take it you mean going out of your way to get it fixed under warrrenty?

Take it back, get it done under warrenty tbh.

Also is the car standard power wise? Is it the 100PD?

Will they do a new clutch under warranty? Would've thought it's a wear and tear item, but I'll happily be proved wrong!

It's the 130 PD, no mods.

A clutch on a 2 year old car shouldnt be slipping esp with only 43k on the clock, did you buy it from a dealer?

130PD on a 04 plate would make it a FR?

Yup, came from Letchworth Autoway, but don't get me started on them!

It's definitely a Sport, one of the last ones before the FR launched.

Just had to go out in it again and it's slipping from 2000rpm now in most gears and jumping a little from standstill.

Millers in Colchester here I come...

yeah prev owners mustve been pretty hard on it if the clutch is slipping at 43k after 2 years, my 130 is remapped with 63k and the clutch never makes a shape at slipping....yet lol. you sure it hasnt been remapped???

How long have you had the remap on stevie? Are the figures under ur name est. or actual?

I myself have had a remap on my PD130 for nearly 30,000 miles (I dont drive like a granny either) and as of yet, I also have no clutch slip.

mine was first remapped about a year ago, yeah i got those figures on a rolling road about a month ago, im sure its only a matter of time before my clutch does start to play up, given the torque im running on the stock clutch, but that just gives me an excuse to get the sachs sports clutch in her hehe.

I was thinking the same for mine, tho if mine goes whilst still under warrenty, i'll settle with the same again for a few 10,000 miles :D

How many miles has it done with a map?

im sure its near the 10k mark now since the remap, as long as you shift down when looking a bit of power the clutch usually wont slip, its only when say the cars in a big gear at low revs and you try and boot it the clutch will struggle, if you change down a gear and get the revs up before you boot it theyll be grand,

I noticed some clutch slip on mine the other day for the first time. It's an FR TDI, with Custom Code, 27k on the clock. On the motorway at 70 in 6th, I noticed a very slight "rise-then-fall" on the RPM gauge when giving a moderately firm squeeze on the go-pedal. It was the first coolish night since I've had the remap, so it's probably fair enough - but if it gets worse I'll be opting for an uprated clutch for sure.

Nothing was ever said about a remap when I bought it. Any easy way of finding out if it either is or has been before? Not had a 130 PD before so I wouldn't know the difference!

I hit 55k and got slippery clutch syndrome... It just teaches you to drive your car differently i guess. Ive got a rubbish fuelling map but it still has enough poke to slip very easily, the torque is very aggressive at 2k and causes massive mechanical strain - avoid it.

I dont think youd get one under warranty at over 20k mate, some people can get through clutches that fast by riding them (i used to live down a small, very tight single-track hill that claimed a few ;) )

My last car was an ST170 bought it from a dealer - two years old, 1 careful lady owner and 25k on the clock. Clutch went completely after a year (by which time I'd got it up to 30k) and I had to fork out £1100 for a new clutch and fly wheel[:@]

Can only assume the careful lady owner was a complete tool.
