First of all apologies for the long post and if it's in the wrong section, I'm completely new to the 'forum' world.

I'm forever reading posts where the first reply is asking for more details of car and previous problems etc so I'll get it all in now, if you have patience to read... Please let me know any suggestions.

2001 Leon Cupra
134k full, good service history.

I bought it a couple of months ago, on test drive it ran for 20 minutes like a dream, then stopped at lights and it shut off.
Got back and left it running, the revs started to dip and running again it was intermittent flat, unplugged MAF. Idle corrected itself.

Replaced MAF
Breather pipe split so replaced
Complete oil change, decent sparks, all three filters changed.
Throttle body cleaned

Car felt fine again until recently it's been running odd.
Intermittent lack of power which got worse, it would occasionally run perfectly bit hit a very quick and sudden 'flat spot' at any speed while cruising, would just suddenly feel like you've hit a massive puddle or brick wall, after a second or two it picks back up.

Driving slowly around town it would be very noticeable and quite often the car would not pick up speed matching the revs given, definite lack of acceleration sometimes, sometimes it would kick in and fly along and sometimes not!
All over the place really!
I have noticed it's especially bad when slowing down and downshifting it would dip then surge badly sometimes taking me by surprise and having to break

Very very frustrating

So here's what the garages did

First one (friendly local)

I took it in and left it after the plugged it in and had no answers, went back later that day one of em informs me his mate who is 'hot on VWs seats etc' was going to take a look...
He came back to me and made out I'm probably thinking it should be faster than it is only being a 150hp!!!!
So even the 'mechanic' didn't know what engine the car was!!
His 'mate' stuck a bloody loan DV on it to see if I thought it had taken away the 'fault' I was describing...

I drove it away... NO it hasn't...

SEAT DEALERSHIP ANSWER....

They phoned me within 10 minutes of having it blaming the 'fault' on a non standard DV incorrectly fitted!! I informed them 'again' that the DV (although unknown to me it was incorrectly fitted) was just a loan one to see of the problem was sigh the standard DV which was sitting in the boot.

He said 'oh, can I fit the standard one then retest'
'Yes' I said 'I know it's not changed since changing it'

He called me back an hour later and said 'ALL FIXED'
The 'standard' DV was not standard either and also incorrectly fitted so they've moved the position to the correct one and should now be fine!!!

They quickly handed car over to me (only charged for diagnosis)

FAULT STILL THERE.

I'm not even bothering to take it back to them...

The car in past couple of days has been throwing tiny dips in idle at standstill along with the intermittent lack of power and weird flat spots/surges

I was thinking something to do with air, a sensor, IAC but can't find anything about IAC on one of these.

Thank you if you took the time to read that.

Any help especially anyone with an idea on where to take it in my area (SUFFOLK)
Somewhere that can drive it and actually tell it's dodgy

Heya, did you have any of the mechanics or friends create a log while driving or read any errors with vagcom? Perhaps something wrong with n75?

She took it to a seat garage mate you would think they would have fixed the problem.

Ah, I took a picture of the codes way back when I first took it in BEFORE the breather pipe with the huge split was replaced. I've lost them, will pop it back in and get them back up but i remember it saying something along the lines of intermittent loss to turbo, couple of others, one being exhaust gases but I know that was gone last time I took it in.

I will pop it in and get the codes tomorrow.

Not much help is it

Yeah SEAT definitely looked under the bonnet and noticed the DV then presumed they had the problem sorted! They phoned me within 15 minutes of me leaving, then an hour later 'fixed' engine wasn't even fully warm once I picked it up so the 'road test' they gave it wasn't done either!
I kinda knew they'd take the mick but not to that extent

Many of them treat me like I'm dumb and presume I just need a car that starts and gets from A 2 B!

On the phone Seat said the 'codes' bring up the DV, I wish I'd asked for proof of that, obviously I have the invoice, only says what they did (what I've described above)

I'm not sure to be honest about the throttle, they just said it had a good clean as was needed!
Starting cold it revs up a tiny bit and takes about 30 seconds to a minute to drop to normal.

Once it's already warm, starts perfect but you'll see the needle dropping slightly, not much though, not trying to stall the lack of power in driving is same hot or cold to be honest

You have jabbasport in peterborough or is that too far?

It would be a good investment/piece of mind to have a smoke test done to rule out or find any boost or vac leaks. Your lack of power symptoms sound similar to soft limp when the ecu delibrately holds back power as its noticed a problem. It tends to do this if theres a slight leak.

Seat jumping on the DV reads to me that they found a check dv fault code logged which is very common and often points to an air leak elsewhere in the local pipework.

Smoke test first and see how it stands, £30-£50 usually.

I'm guessing a cracked hose somewhere creating a vacuum leak. It's probably a small crack in a pipe that'll be very tricky to spot.

I'd get a smoke test done.

Edit: <snap!>

Yeah I don't believe anyone has carried out a smoke test or anything, I may try get them to do that.

If I had the space, time, tools and equipment I'd've done all this myself. Probably would've had it fixed by now. So frustrating relying on others

Thank you very much for your suggestions, I've said to 3 different garages including Seat that I'm suspecting something to do with air and not one test done.
I'll let you know what comes up after a smoke test

Thanks again everyone

We all would :D

But smoke kit is quite new to the market and not cheap apparently so you need a garage for that. Jabba deffo have it if you get stuck.

I once took in my 01 LC that was very modified @ 320bhp for dealer coil pack recall.... the poor technician looked terrified! lol

Ok brilliant I not long ago had a **cough** peugeot **cough** 306XSI go in for a smoke test very local to me so will try them first but I do go to Peterborough very occasionally for work so will keep them in mind too

Thank you
