Went from Coventry down to see a friend in Uxbridge yesterday, about half way down the m40 it splutters and kicks up the EPC and MIL light, think its the usual limp mode from what others get, so I pull into the hard shoulder and restart the car and all is well, get back on and about a mile from my friends house it kicks off completely.

I limp it to my friends drive as Its a better place to sit for breakdown than a country lane in west london, call SEAT assist, very nice AA man comes to look at the car and I have a Code on Cylinder 4, fair enough! He changes my coil pack and that makes no difference. Takes the spark plug out and only some of it comes out!!!!!

So at some point the plug has weakened and then the ignighter has fallen off into my block!!!

God knows what damage that has done! :censored:

Does it run OK with a new plug in?

You may be lucky and find that the bit of spark plug left the engine via the exhaust walves and through the exhaust, it's probably stuck in your cat.

Sometimes things like this can cause just a few dents to the top of the piston and that's nothing to worry about and other times it can damege the boars and trash the valve seats.

The dealers will probably just do a compression test and if that's OK bosh a new set of plugs in and send you on your way with their fingers crossed.

Yeh alot of the time it will just exit out the exhaust.

i know ohh to well about things exiting from the exhaust, had a valve drop on my bike

One of my sparkplugs was also broken, the porcelain was cracked, creating misfires.
There are new plugs available for our engines, sadly my garage didnt have them in stock yet. So they just replaced the broken one and I went home again.

Anyone know the specs of the new plugs?

Cheers guys, right now im asking for a full engine strip down and for them to find the bit of metal, It could be lodged anywhere but I want an engineer to physically look on the inside and make sure no damage has done on an engine that already drinks oil like a fish!

(I am confident fish drink a lot of oil)

I also asked for a report on the conrods as im sure even a tiny bit of metal would bend them slightly.

worse part is not a single courtesy car so now im gonna try phoning the 0500 number for SEAT Customer Services from the website and see if someone can find me 4 wheels from somewhere to drive.

Sorry to hear fella, mine is misfiring a bit now at high revs feels like it is holding back. With the new plugs from revo though! Worrying..

Booked it in just incase.

Fingers crossed for you!

With the new plugs REVO recommended????!!!!!!! Did they flash the updated software too?

seems they have done a compression test and changed the plugs and that is good enough! wtf definitely on to seat uk tomorrow. trying to tell me the bits of spark plug vaporised!

You don't need to phone SEAT UK CS.... Just tell the dealer that they need to do more to satisfy you that the debris is gone.

ie - don't accept the car back until it's done.

not what has worked so far , dealer had no cars apparently, one call to customer service uk and I'm in a leon tonight!

it may work for you buy working for a car firm taught me that this is the best course of action for any problems , and I'd recommend them to any one else having problems with the dealer.

I thought you were calling CS to talk about the tests on the car

No brainer if you can't get a loaner - weirder still that SEAT Assist didn't provide (mind you, if it was out of hours for Enterprise that would explain it)

phoning tomorrow for tests dealer can't do what they are not authorised to do, phone cs to weight the warranty claim
