So for the blue circled bit, I can take the cover off fully and just leave that? I was speaking to a friend who's well into modding cars earlier and he said it was an oil breather. If I was to take the cover off it's cool to leave that with no extra parts or do I need to buy something to put over it?
The other pipe(tube connecting the cover to the engine I assume you mean) - when you say cut it and bung a filter what do you mean by filter? As in clamp it shut with something or do I need some kind of filter on it?

Sorry man but your friend is wrong, it is an exhaust heat shield, as I said earlier it is plumbed into your car for fuel emissions, especially on cold starts etc, warms your cat up quicker. It is definitely not needed. You can even just remove the plate completely, it will make your engine bay look a lot nicer, will get a bit warmer but its nothing to worry about
As seen above it sits over the exhaust manifold, trapping warm air and allowing your intake to suck it all in.
That other pipe thing, its connected to a one-way valve on your cam cover. This is designed so that the cam cover can breathe but can only breathe and not draw anything in. Basically as your intake pulls vacuum it opens the valve allowing the case to breathe freely. The action you should take with this, is take the pipe off, remove the one way valve and connect a small breather filter to the cam cover outlet with a small bit of pipe, or just onto the outlet it's self. It can be seen below.

At the end of the day as long as the cam cover can breathe, allowing all that positive pressure to escape, your engine will run like normal. Bung a filter on the outlet, and the thumes will breathe into the atmosphere. No
problem.
No idea where your crankcase breather is located, unless they are linked in someway...not sure on that one.
But putting a filter on that outlet will be completely acceptable.

The above link is an example of a breather filter, you can buy them all over ebay and they are relatively cheap. Just check the diameter of the outlet so you can buy the correct size.
Also the induction kit you want to buy, does it come with intake piping to connect your filter too? Unless of course you are planning to put the filter straight onto the throttle body
I found this on K&N, they mount the filter directly on to the throttle body but the great design with this filter is that it has all the pipe work for your breather, so you can connect it up to your one way valve and you are ready to go, no additional filters needed.

Kits like that are great as it is just a case of everything is already there and all you have to do is put it on

There is a rumour that K&N air filter oil messes with MAF sensors, but I am sure you would be fine to use one. I used a 57i in the past and had no problems
