Doesn't it depend on the width of the alloy also.... it does not matter if they are 19 or not, but rather:
Are they 7.5, 8 or 8.5" wide... that is what you should be looking at and then matching the tyre to that.

I have 19 x 8 with 225/35/19 front (to clear coilovers) and 235/35/19 back, not had a problem with either ' fallling off'. Would never drop it to 215 though I don't think - the ride would be unbearable.

The stretch of the tyre is COMPLETELY dependant on how wide the alloy is! It doesnt matter if hypothetically the alloy is 50'' diameter......if it is 8'' wide you need a tyre that is much the same!

I prefer the tyre to stick out further than the alloy so there is less chance of the alloy curbing!! Although a slight stretch looks cooler!

Well made decision not to get streched so ordered first thing today and leave on monday. Roll on christmas all over when i get back. Was gonna order spacers but shall wait till the alloys arive do some measurements then order them dependant. Woot Woot [B)] :funk:

If I had a quid for every time I read a thread on here lately where the OP is looking at fecking the outright performance of their car with either stretched tyres, chopped springs, cheap self fitted cheap a$$ coilies etc. I wouldn't need to work anymore. What is driving this obsession with image over performance?

These days if I see a mid priced hatchback thats lowered on its a$$ or riding superfat rim/tyre combo I just back away and save myself. Being different is one thing, being safe for your own, your passengers, and other road users is an OBLIGATION.

cheap coilies arent "unsafe" though are they, differnt users have differing budgets, so a "cheap" set of coilies may be not as good handling as say a £600 set but on a budget the cheaper sets will give handling upgrades and looks. its wrong to assume everyone can afford expensive mods as they cant. its a personal opinion .

Coxw what about us people that bend and break or cars on track? 600 quid each time i do that im going to be bankrupt:doh:

if you re-read my post I said self fitted cheap @$$ coilovers.

However, I still maintain that a decent spring damper set up will work better on the average UK roads than cheap coilovers - my only evidence for this is that I couldn't get my H&R coilies which cost over a grand set up quite right even after paying for a couple of people to reset them. My Weitec's were fuss free and much better for road use as they tended to ride the road rather than skirting/bouncing over it on poor surfaces. Each to their own, but I don't suspect cheap coilies will be any better. Completely personal opinion.

If you sent me off diving and told me you'd gone out and bought me a budget set of diving equipment that worked perfectly well 99% of the time would I go diving at the bottom of the ocean.... No. Again, a personal choice.

Again I return to the fact that we don't track race proper performance cars. They are overweight hatchbacks with poor aero capabilities. Decent spring dampers that are around the price of budget coilovers I believe will perform an adequate job for the average track dayer.

When I bought the LCR in 2005 I went to Prodrive with SEAT for the day, and Luke Hines took us all for a flying lap around the Warwickshire test track in a standard spec Leon R. Yes the brake pedal went soft, yes he rolled a tyre clean off a rim, but afterwards he maintained for the standard/average driver it was a pretty decent track day car in basic form given how it would get used. I know we all want to go better as we have passion for our cars, but I can't help feeling there is some misguided vision that by putting cheap coilies on that the laws of physics will be reversed in your favour. In fact cheap anything is a compromise, and if you are going to put your own life in your hands you have to make the choice of what you want to use. I know its not cheap replacing all this stuff, but ultimately I'm not digging at people around the depth of their pockets here, its about awareness of the why's and the what's of what they are actually doing. TO be frank its none of my business what people spend there money on, but when there seems to be so little information about on suspension, let alone the mechanics of setting it up to suit your needs, sometimes I think its right to challenge the convention to make sure people keep an open mind.

yeah okay, whats wrong with SELF FITTED coilovers? actually you mean the adjustment on them yeah?

I do mate. I've been out in a Corrado VR6 with self fitted coilovers and its braking was appauling, it pulled hard to one side, the tyres wore out in under 500 miles, and in the wet it aquaplaned like a pig.

Problem is people want to rejig the ride height and settings once fitted, and as soon as you drop it you are affecting so many other variables that even race team pro's can get it horribly wrong if the track conditions change. At least on the track you have a roll cage, a helmet and everyone is going in the same direction. On the roads you have the public, pedestrians and yourself.

so basically, no stretched tyres, pal, decent tyres. f1 assym, or similar, and fit a set of springs and shocks for road use not coilies......

i no loads of people with stretch none of them have had there tyres fall off . one on stage 2 s3 and a few on 200sx who drift all the time at events ...

Hey guys so wheels where sent today so need some help already know they wont fit as from browner 1's post's so what im wondering is what size spacers you would recommend for lambo reps. They are 19" and et35. Want the back's to stick out a little and not sure about front.

Thanks in advance Mark

I think 15mm on the back and maybe 10 on the front, that's what I ran when i had the RS6 fakes and they were ET35. Filled the arches up nicely whilst maintaining a difference between front and rear track - it handles bettter like that I think. I only got the 10mm fitted to clear the brakes, it was after that I realised i needed the backs doing to make it look right.
