I am going to change the spark plugs in my car tonight, following the hesitation issues I have been experiencing.

What plugs are best to use? I nipped to Halfords at dinnertime, but the ones they listed didnt seem to be very high performance ones; like I would have though they should be.

Also, are they a pain to remove? Had a quick look under the bonnet, and there a good few things to be removed on top of the rocker cover, before you can get to the plugs by the looks of it, hard work??

Or go to seat i only paid about 4 quid each for mine from there.
 
Have you got a part number for the OEM Seat plugs? Just in case they try to fob me off with unsuitable ones for the cupra.

I'm sure someone said they were still running standard plugs on K03s without any probs so they should be ok for me (might be mistaken tho)
 
Sorry mate i dont have part numbers just tell them your engine code AYP or AQX and they "should" give you the right ones. Ive got revo stage 1 and the plugs have been in 6 months with no problems atall.
 
Im running Denso IK22`s, seemed to feek better after the service, I think there one heat range colder, or somthing simalr to that
 
NGK BKR7E's are one grade colder than standard theyre a non platinum tip plug which is what i have to go in.

I have NGK PFR6Q's in at the moment and theyre all good, i just bought the BKR7E's to try as theyre a colder plug so i might be able to run a little more timing.

I've regapped them to .028" as well.

Standard gap is .032"
 
sorry to bring up a old thread but i have some NGK PFR6Qs but do they need to have three pins at the top instead of one as the cupras are a turbo?

I´ve just changed plugs to Denso PK20PR-P8. They work fine, but after changing them there is a strange smell. I can only smell it when I stop the engine. Any ideas? Are the plugs wrong? The car is a 1.8T. :confused:
 
take out one of the plugs and have a look at it. Should be greyish in color(the tip that is)


As for sparks on a increased powered car...quite some discussion on this.

Most remap companies I know advise to go 1 grade colder for every 50bhp you go up from stock...

I just ordered denso ik22's but after reading this post it seems these are only for mapped

cars is this true? as my car is standard 180bhp i hope these are ok?

I though the cupra had to have Platinum plugs? Is that not right?
