Is it possible to change the speedo/radio light colour on my MK4? I'd prefer Blue over Red.

Thank you.

dont think so, changed mine for aftermarket HU and you can change the colour from there.

Are you dash lights red as well?

the only way to do the dash is to cut out and resolder all the LEDs in the cluster/switches

This images are taken from another forum.
If this is what you where thinking I can post the rest of the pics with the process.

The radio light i thing would be more difficult.

I can't see it being that hard if you know how to wield a soldering iron, getting the dash out isn't hard either.

Mmmm.... Might do this, as I loved the dash on my 6N2 Polo(s) (blue and red)

Well the forum is in romanian, i will try to translate the instructions.

Pic1:"to remove the plastic mask you have to unscrew in those 5 locations"

Pic2:"to remove the........... first pres on the.............. and pull the purple thing"

Pic3:"bla bla"

Pic4:"what you have to remove in order to get inside the panel"

Pic5:"to remove the indicators, rotate them clockwise until the maximum point possible and pull, would be recommended to make a discrete sign with a pen for when you want to put them back"

Pic6: ""

Pic7: "removing the plastic mask is very easy, it is attached on the back by 4 things :D"

Pic8:""

Pic9:"seen from the back"

Pics

Used materials: 20 white SMD; 10 3mm white led.
And you will need a tool for soldering and unsoldering (someone says that it should be ESD safe, I don't know what that means)

Pic: "left: 3mm white leds, center: new white SMD, right: old red SMD"

Hope this is useful. Sorry for any misspelling !!!!

ESD means electro static discharge..static build up from trainers/shoes or clothing causing serious damage to components or ic's unless you are earthed correctly...This i do know as im an electronic engineer/technician

I think I'm going to give it a bash, already found my LED's online Farnell, well at least a selection of them. You can probably get them cheaper elsewhere but, at work we order components a few times a week from farnell.

If I get the time to do the job, I'll do the CD player aswell

What an absolute faff. :help: I like the red dash lights, but if your up for a challenge... good luck! ;)

I'm with you, I think the red looks great. Seems like a lot of work to change something that already looks good!

It it perfecly safe to do it as long as you wear an earth strap on your wrist to prevent you from blowing/damaging anyother components on the board.....you will also have to order a selection of surface mount leds ranging from case sizes 0603 , 0805 and 1206 depending on tho pad size on the boards.....you might also need to pt a resistor inline with the leds aswell..if you kmow what you are doing you should be ok but if you are crap with a soldering iron i would give it a miss
