Just looked up the specs, no wonder a standard 55-plate STI was slightly slower than me the other day - it has quite a bit more weight than mine: 270bhp and 1376kg [196bhp/tonne] - versus - 278bhp and 1495kg [186bhp/tonne]

Here you go Gav.

You need to disconnect both hoses that run to the N249 (the one from inlet manifold and the one from the DV) and connect them together.

 The STi's, standard ones anyway without PPP aren't as amazing as people think. Well ok they are for a standard car but once you go Stage 1 in an LCR, it catapults you right up there with the bigger cars. You really have to praise VAG for this 1.8T unit.

I wouldn't leave the EVO alone lord, with remap, exhaust and filter you can get nearly 400bhp. A standard 280 would do as a nice base for this and alot of fun i'd imagine.

I would be after an VIII so options would be the standard 260 which is has a 5spd box, smaller turbo housing & different differential from what I can tell. Up from that is the 280 with is neither at the bottom or an FQ although I am lead to believe it's a down tuned 300 so remapping etc should all be the same and it has a 6spd box. The 280 would be the best option I feel although there are few out there in comparison to the 300 which are the most common. Strangely the 280 has the same insurance premium for me as the 300 & 320 so intial buying price is the decider & of course mileage.

Sorry to 'jack the thread Gaz :D

Most likely at work
im running at stage 2 right now, going to go for a FMIC and a hybrid turbo next, does that still fall under stage 2, or does the hybrid turbo mean il need a stage 3?

with the extra power is it necessary to have an LSD of some sort or can i get away without forking out for one?

cheers.

Not sure about the hybrid actually... I would have thought custom (aka stage 3) but not 100% sure.

The LSD isn't a bad idea, even in a FWD car with only 200bhp as it will give the car more traction out of corners as the power won't be completely transferred to the spinning wheel.

So just done the bypass. Can someone tell me what it's meant to do? And surely leaving the hose connectors un blocked can't be good for the car can it?

Yeah you leave them unblocked and it's fine. Blocking them up has caused negative performance results for some.

Can you feel no difference at all? After I did mine (also have AMD Stage 1), it tried to kill me. Boost came in very strong and without hesitation, it is also alot soomther to drive normally. Bypassing the N249 lets you control the DV with the throttle rather than the ECU, in essence, you have more control of the car.
