My son has recently purchased a 1.4 mk3 Ibiza (become a mini me as I have Toledo same colour). Seems a good car but have a few standard things to sort, discs, service etc. But the annoying one is a noise in the steering.

There is no play in the system and it drives really well with no noises. Have had a look under and everything is tight. The noise is more of a click that comes and goes, as if a joint is catching a rubber boot, and comes turning both directions.
Anyone had anything similar.

My wife has Peugeot 206 1.4 and the 2 cars are chalk and cheese. the Ibiza is quiet with more torque, but the Peugeot is rattly and lively, and the engine is so much more powerfull, but needs revving. Just mentioned out of interest.

Does it make the noise when you turn both ways? Clicking might be a worn cv joint.

Yes it does make noise in both directions and have now tracked it down to the steering column, appears to be at lower joint, under the rubber boot.
Lower ball joints are good and all bushes etc seem solid and quiet.
