Steering wheel electrics gone!

Hi people.
I have found a thread on this exact problem but there was nothing in it in the end to say what the problem was and I have asked but got no reply so does anyone have any ideas what it could be. The basic problem is my steering wheel controls i.e. bluetooth, audio, and even the horn have all stopped working. My car is not even three weeks old Haven't had chance to check the fuses yet but even if it is a fuse surely it shouldn't blow this quick. The dealer said they've had a few, promising start, but said it could be the controls gone? Any ideas folks

If its brand new why sweat, just get the dealer to fix it

You dont even have to take it to them, under the waranty they have to come to you if you cant drive the vehicle

I can still drive it really it's just this will be the forth time i've been back in under three weeks, 5 if I have to go back and have parts fitted. When its a 30/40 mile round trip were talking nearly 200 extra miles on the clock plus the diesel! Was just hoping it might be something simple. I'll post how it goes for future sufferers

more than likely a plug will have come undone. there should be 2 from the steering wheel under the steering wheel or steering column cowls, one for wheel electrics the other for the airbag. if you dont have an airbag fault that one will be still connected.
my advice would be to still take it to the dealer and let them know of your displeasure/expense/worry/time and see if they can come up with any 'goodwill gesture'.

Not tried Listers yet I'll see how I get on Weds.
The airbag light hasn't come on so my thoughts were similar Chris regards a plug of somewhere but they will have a piece of my mnd when I get there as promised someone would call me back last week regards free fitting of the chrome air vent surrounds and I've heard Jack from them as yet

Well took her in today to have the Chrome air vent surrounds fitted, will add a photo to my intro thread asap, and they looked at steering wheel. Thay have had to order new steering wheel controls going back friday to have them fitted provided they turn up have to check in the morning. All well and good in a way however I will be asking why they failed 15 days into ownership of a brand new car which I find dissapointing and begs the question that the next set could go one assumes whenever they feel like it

Had the new controls fitted and all is good for now. Asked for any reasons why they went so soon and the answer was could be teething problems or a bad batch At least it's working now and if anyone has the same problem it's just go to the dealer there will be nothing you can do yourself.

Well the electrics (controls) have all gone again this morning
Just 8 days after the new ones were fited that went 15 days into ownership and the car is less than 5 weeks old.
Anyone who has this problem could you add to this thread so I know I'm not the only poor bd putting up with this and any ideas what it is.
Only thing I can think is I had the lights on this am so steering wheel was lit up, blasted the horn at some wally on the motorway too so maybe its overloading?

I'll ask but I'm thinking the answer will be no way pal!
Plus I've fitted so many extras (see my welcome thread) we'd have a game and a half, 1500miles on the clock as I've been busy, and to them this will be a small problem I'd say.
I will however be planting the seed to make sure I get something done as I don't want to be back and forth to the dealer every two weeks for new controls!
Pity they couldn't even be bothered to call me back today

there isnt a law there in UK that protects customer from "lemons" that is the way its called in USA afaik if the car presents many problems like yours its a lemon and you can change it... but i dont know laws in UK

hope you can resolve this issue as i know how you feel, a new car that doesnt work as it should and give you so many troubles is not fair besides that the dealer is a moron... that alone is enough to me not to buy anymore a seat

Have to admit it's really bugging me. This will be the 6th time i've been back for various reasons, the remote key needed replacing as the one they sent was faulty, the sat nav cd hadn't arrived when picked the car up, twice to get the steering wheel controls fixed last time, the chrome air surrounds was two visits, a piece of intirior trim needs replacing as doesn't fit properly, now this again. 19k is allot of money and I'm fed up already. Never had a new car and it seems they are no better than second hand just loads more money. It looks great but it all honesty if this carries on I don't want the car anymore
I dare say with the laws over here so long as they are trying to fix it mean I haven't a leg to stand on over here in UK I just have to suck this bitter lemon I've brought

Ring Seat direct, tell them you have had enough and demand action.

Find out who you talked to at SEAT direct and send them an e-mail confirming your conversation and the problems and also tell them that with this level of problems you do not feel confident in the car and wish it to be exchanged for a new one.

(might be worth putting a thread in the general section or doing a search to see if anyone has ever done this.)

Cheers mate. Spoke to them today and they said they would get me loan car but not for two weeks. I said, and they agreed that I wouldn't take the car back until it was fixed and they said they would look for another fault somewhere further down the line. I will call Seat UK in the meantime as I don't feel confident with the electrics anymore and get that sinking feeling it will always be a problem car. Fitted loads of extras which could be a problem for a swap as some won't come off however it would be nice to get something back for wasted time, miles on the clock, and diesel in the tank. Don't know what to do I'm just gutted at the mo with it.

Well didn't need the loan car as the steering wheel just lit up and has worked ever since of it's own accord on a long drive from up north, very strange but if all stays well I'm a happy man again. The trim was replaced and fine now so teething problems aside were good. Haven't spoken to Seat UK yet and still feel I'm owed something for my time and fuel costs hopefully they will be sympathetic and we can move past this.

Spoken to Seat UK and they agree I've had a rough ride. In fact I'd have to say I was expecting a battle with them but found they are real people who have been sympathetic to my situation and agreed to ease the pain of the past few months with a few bits for the car.
Morral of the story is to stick with it, get the problem resolved, and have a little chat with Seat UK putting the smile back on your face.
