Strange Tdi 130bhp mpg problem

Hi folks iv got a strange problem my mpg has gone down a lot only when engine/ water is cold
My instant mpg is reading terrible mpg between 8 and 35mpg when cold
I know it uses more diesel in cold conditions but is gone down a lot more lately more than when it was - 5 in the winter

However when cars full operation temp and I reset trip comp it does 50-55mpg av which is right .

Any ideas why its using so much when cold

Maybe a temp/water sensor needs changing

Its had new maf and all filters, cam belt changed in last 2k . mpg improved a lot when I had this done but recently gone down lots

Wouldn’t really bother me but my main driving is small journeys so its killing the diesel !

Performance is still strong so no problems with driving.

mines the same tbh.. just started + town driving can read about 20mpg up to 4th gear, but goes up vastly when warm

Fuel temp sensor maybe?

Wouldn't say there was anything wrong with it the diesel courtesy cars my dad gets lent when he has work done,which are generally a year old or brand new do exactly the same. His a3 3.2 petrol also gets higher mpg when getting warmer, just wierd! Lol
