Strut insert

does anyone know what the 'strut insert' is

apprently this could be the root cause of my probs
i.e not fitted correct when shocker was changed......

I would guess that the "strut insert" being referred to is the damper itself. The bottom end of the damper is inserted into the tob of the hub and clamped tight.

What problems are you having ?

depends on model and design really, usually a strut insert or shock abs as called is either fixed into the McPherson strut or removeable

mk4 for example #8

and probably not a good example so ignore the fact its chopped off but a seperate insert would fit in similar to this

i have a knocking (metallic and very annoying) sounds like disc being hit with hammer
and did it when i dropped car down off jack on saturday while checking the wishbone bolts were tight.

i have tried all kinds and it's pointing at strut - it was replaced a couple of months ago
and the knocking only happens at slow speeds and when turning or parking

someone on skoda web site said this was their prob

i have checked all other suspect areas.

It's going to garge today but i like to be one step ahead.

Maybe that; I'd say other possible culprits could be the top suspension mounts/bearings, or perhaps the spring isn't sat correctly in it's lower platform and is moving on turns.

well.....it's bloody annoying

i didn't think ibiza had strut inserts but anything is possible.
Top mounts is next in line and maybe not put back togther correct

Well a Seat dealer managed to reassemble mine once without the top bearings in
Symptoms were steering being harder to turn, much clunking & scraping as I turned in tight manouvres, an amazing self-centring ability, and a slightly lower front end

oh.....

ours is ok apart from the metallic clunk which we can predict now
it's at Arnold Clark in Newcastle now so hopefully today i'll get some news
of the good vareity
