Stupid Stupid Screw!!! Trying to change Brake Discs

Hey guys,
Im trying to change my Discs and pads on the front of my Leon 1.9TDI FR, and all was going well until i get to this stupid little screw which i believe does nothing more than align the Discs with the wholes for the wheel nuts etc. it just wont budge anyone else had any problems with this if so how did u get over it?

any help would be greatly apprechiated

i did also have same problem and used a chizel to get it off. also never fitted a new one when put new disks on and only drama is lining up the wheels the disc and the hub.

Drill it out then smash it out flush with a chisel that's what I done

Drill it out and tap the hole for a new screw.

To remove the screw you HAVE to use an impact driver, nothing else will budge it even if it's had copper grease and 5 lbft of torque last time it was fitted. As you've quite rightly said, it does nothing but hold the disc in place while you put the wheel on, so drilling it out is perfectly acceptable. In most cases the caliper itself will hold it still while you have tyres changed etc.

Dan, you suggest smashing the remnants flat? I actually left a millimetre or so proud, it sort of helps with alignment when refitting the discs. Obviously not as good as a complete screw but still quite useful. Eventually I'll try and use that last little bit of material with a pair of mole grips, and replace the screw.

You might want to at some point, but it will make virtually no difference to run without it.

I didn't when i changed my front discs for grooved items. Been fine ever since. I snapped one, so can't be bothered to do anything with it. Got the rears to look forward to today or tomorrow, bet the old bolts will be a nightmare again

i add to drill mine out but like dave says i re-tapped and put a new screw in there for a peace of mind.

Haha needs must I didn't have the time when changing them the caliper holds the disk inplace enough to get the wheel on then the 5 bolts hold it secure

I got mine out with a normal screwdriver and WD40 just make sure you have break cleaner is much easier with impact screwdriver tho
