Im sure ive seen somthing about this before on here but i cant seem to find it?

anyways im putting a sub in and i dont know how to get the thick power wire from the battery into my car? in my mates focus there was a rubber gromit that i put it through, on the ibiza there is that hole with all the wires in it going to the door from the car, it has a rubber shrink tube thing over it, i was looking at putting it through that but looking at all those wires it looks very full...

how have you got your wire from the battery into the car? i remember someone saying they drilled a hole but id rather not do that if i can avoid it, any help would be good :)

thanks guys

just drill a hole..paint any bare metal...then put in a rubber grommet with a slit in it and then put it through...snug as a bug in a rug

yeah i was thinking of seeing if there was any gromits near the clutch cable, are both those gromits being used?

where would you say is a good place to drill crezz? near the hinge on the door? then bring the wire in at the back of the glove box?

think ill try going with the clutch gromits :)

if i cant do it that way ill drill a hole above the hinge on the passenger side since i can just take the glove box out and see what im doing, make sure i dont go through anything lol

There is a plastic/rubber grommit already on the bulkhead that is used. If you look from the passenger footwell it is just above where the carpet finishes, above a plastic thing to hold the carpet in place.

If you look from the engine bay it is just above the passenger side chassis leg, its alittle up the bulkhead. Above a thick cable/cables going into the car. I have run mine from the battery, down the chassis leg and up into that hole, then along the passenger side into the boot.

had a look for some available gromits to use this morning and i found the same one your on about cruiser :) put the wire in and it came straight out under the glove box into the foot well, what an easy job that was :D

anyway i got it all wired in, sub in, amp in and all in the back of the head unit, but guess what?? the amp just wont turn on, the power light doesnt light up, i dont get it...

we had this problem in my mates focus and it was to do with the earth wire, ive got it on that little tab of metal on the side of the suspension, scraped all the paint off it down to the metal and noting, then decided to try it on one of the screws that the back lights are held on with, scraped the paint off that too and nothing

thought it might have been the remote cable from the head unit to the amp so got another wire and attached that at both ends and still nothing :confused:x2 lol

so im back to the earth now cos im convinced its going to be that, where have you guys put your black earth wire?

thanks guys, Chris

I had mine on one of the bolts holding the back lights in and worked fine. dont mean to sound like a arsehole but are you sure you have put the remote wire on to the right connector on the head unit as mine has two one is remote wire and one is to power a fold down aerial. to test it run a lead from your stereo power (red one) and connect your remote wire to it if that works then put a switch on it. i had this setup in my old 1.4 beeza and it worked fine.

yeah i tried on the back light like you said, still no go :(

i have 2 wires that come off my head unit and i tried them both for the remote wire to the amp, got nothing from it, cant remember both colours, think they where both blue, one says amp something and the other is blue but i cant remember if there is coloured stripe down it, ill check 2morro :)

so the red wire that goes in the back of the head unit that powers it, pull that out and attach it to the remote wire going to the amp, then see if it lights up? so if i do this it will mean the head unit will have no power obv cos its going to the amp, but the amp should work and light up? is that right?

Sorry dont pull it out just "piggyback" it so you have the original wire goin to your headunit left in place and then splice another wire into it so it can run another feed i.e your amp remote wire.
Here is a pic of my old loom

hope that helps!

oh right okay, so on yours you have the red wire left in but youve put that other wire into the same end, so you have 2 wires coming out of the same port hole, this way you can attach the yellow one to the amp, is that right?

Have you checked the fuse on the live wire? Normally at the end you connect the battery to.

Regarding the remote, on the back of my headunit theres a thin blue wire that is for the remote.

As a quick test connect a bit of wire from the live feed from the battery on the amp to remote, this should turn the amp on. If it doesn't then either you've got a crap earth, a fuse blown or a dud amp. It's usually a bad earth. Try to earth temporarily to one of the rear seat belt bolts
