What some people may be referring to is the rumour that the OEM tip was modified from early versions to be less likely to collapse. I havn't actually seen any evidence to support this.

Im sooo waiting to fit my TIP :D. Got it delivered today but no time yet. But im visiting JKM garage on thursday and i may be tempted to ask them to do that. Is it hard to fit ? How much time u guys reckon i may need to do that? I've read somewhere that TIP on a remapped car can give up to 10hp o_O. True?

Mine took ages to fit but mainly because it took ages to tear off all those crappy one use clips that SEAT use. Refitting the new one is relatively easy.

I was badgering THS for ages when they sold out of the last batch of LCR TIPs, managed to get my hands on one of a limited batch, in my preferred colour too, black (subtlety). Gone up £10 though to £76 but against nigh £130 delivered from Forge, who's going to argue. I'll be sticking it on this weekend I hope.

Interesting, they charged me £76 too, thought that was a bit off actually but like you say in comparison to the price from Forge its just no contest.

I did ask the question and they said it was because material prices had risen due to the current economy. Fair enough really and they also mentioned that they were gooing to get a proper discount structure going to club members, think they were over welmed by the interest from SCN.

I thought the idea behind a silicon TIP was because in very few cases (say, compared to the dv) the OE part has failed.

I wouldn't think that it would improve power or responsiveness though? I was only intending on replacing mine if the original part failed (as with all other engine parts except the dv in my case).

You'd be wise to replace it with your Stage 1 Remap. See here what happens to the OEM one under high boost...

http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=190202&product=FM225IND

You'll get the full potential from your remap if you upgrade.

I'm not entirely convinced by that video. People often cite it but just because it has been shown that it CAN happen doesn't mean it actually will. As for gains with a TIP? Again I think it's unlikely to yield much if anything at all.

I got mine as a 'just in case' mod really as one way or another, the OEM hose will perish at some point. I've had my hand down there and the OEM hose is pretty squidgy and besides, if I am going to upgrade the air filter then it's worth while doing the whole lot.

The worst case scenario is that is fails completely and the turbo starts sucking up debris from the engine bay. In theory I guess this could damage the turbo but I think its relatively unlikely.

I can't see a much of a performance advantage (although deforming on high boost would constrict the air flow a little so you never know), but from a longevity POV it seems worthwhile.

Part of the reason I changed the OE DV was longevity, and also the stronger spring required and the improved response. But also I heard that when the OE DV splits, bits can be sucked into the turbo causing damage? I'm thinking an uprated TIP might be worthwhile for the same reason...

From a durability POV it is worth it and i don't think £76 from THS is too much to ask for, I mean it can't be too much more than OEM can it? If you do go ahead, let us know if you notice any difference in performance, I am interested to know.

Its not just the fact the standard one can callapse under pressure tho, the standard metal bracket that connects the top half of the TIP to the turbo flange is stupidy restrictive its squashed like a pancake!..........well it is on the AUQ 180 engine with the KO3s I'm not sure if its the same on the R with the KO4
