Thank you so much for this , I have been trying to work out where the noises are coming from for weeks - don't know why I didn't find this thread before, but very glad I looked again. Just a shame I spent £120 on the garage trying to diagnose fix it, before realising that two mins and a bit of insulating tape was I needed!

It was at the point where I couldn't bear to drive the car, thanks chaps!

Can anyone please explain how to adjust bump stops and this:

I read somewhere that i can adjust this thing, meaning get it to lower or higher position by adjusting some screws which are probably below this plastic ?

As for the bump stops, they wont move a bit.

Thank you very much but i have so much problems to understand those Seat manuals. Yes, i am not from english speech area but they seem to be understandable only for those who wrote it.

Fit the plate "as far back as possible" , what does that mean ? I don't see how can i adjust its up/down position .
How do i remove the plastic trip which is above the plate ?

Regarding the buffers, it's even more incomprehensible. It sais "loosen lock bolt 2" , but i don't see bolt 2 at all. After that i should pull something out !? I think im gonna give up on this on my own. :)

EDIT: I just went out to the car to take a look, didn't realise that there there is a tiny whole within the buffer with the little screw below. I should probably unscrew a bit and pull the plastic holder for one "tooth" .Regarding the striker pin, i got it, it goes up/down not by the depth but width.

I managed to unscrew them but i dont know how to move them, can u help ? Almost screew them out. I wanted to push them a bit more so that the boot have better grip when closed but they wont budge.

Thank you very much, mate !

ChatGPT just told me that type of bump stoper on my car is not movable . Can that be true ?

Anyway, i think i found the source of the rattle, i think its the boot lock, percisely the pliers that lock the boot against the striker pin. They rattle i think, the have a slack and they play and make exactly the noise i am experiencing.

I don't know what to do with it, i can buy a new one but the problem is that in that case i need to remove the boot trim which is probably imposible without severe damage (been there, done that, already bought a new one once) . Or, i can try adjusting the striker pin but it also needs trim removal which i dont know how to do and i am sooo anxious with those clip trims.

ok firstly let me share two pictures I took just now.

As you can see the stopper using the bottom park locks into the boot lid, I can see there is a thread on the top section but according to the instructions there is a lock nut (I am guessing its under the rubber bit) that you can undo and adjust the gap.

Never needed to adjust the lock part but based on the pictures in my original post you will have to remove the trim (If you need those pages let me know) and then undo the two nuts and pull the unit down as far as it can go. Or (and this is a pure guess) if you put some tape around the locking part this will allow the boot to be tighter.

The other thought is to put something on the rubber grommet to make it longer or something on the car body to increase the gap (hope that makes sense)

Thanx,

I think im gonna buy a new lock although i know that if i take off the trim im gonna damage it. It is made for that, for one use, they literally steal money from u in legitimate way.

Do u have pictures of removing the trim above the locking pin ?

Thank u, i dont wanna bother u anymore.

Still havent sorted it out. My son was literally with his head in the trunk, he hears it but cant recognize from where the sound is coming. A plastic rattling, mostly on bumpy roads and over rails, Im so tired from this but cant get over it.

I replaced the boot lock not too long ago on my ST and it was easier than expected. The boot trim survived all in one piece with all the clips. The trim is held in place with only these clips:

I have this issue with both the boot hatch and rear seats, every 3/4 weeks I'm replacing the electrical tape, anyone found something that lasts longer? TIA

Yesterday i drove my friend with his head in the trunk and vice versa. We agreed that the bumping noise is coming from the upper part of the rear right shock absorber. Today i was at the mechanics, he didnt find anything. Everything is ok with it. Seems that the problem is hardness of rear absorbers which i put new 2 months ago (Sachs). I went to the shock absorbers test, they also told me that they are ok but the rear ones are very hard.

This is the test results, all 4 shocks are from this summer (Sachs).

Nothing else i can do but give up.

Yes, i mean the mechanic told me that he replaced everything, shocks, top mounts (which are not the same as in the front) and that protective plastic .

I think that there is no more uncomfortable car than leon. Its so hard that it is almost unbearable (we have very bad roads) . Its great only on good roads.
