we used to stick thicker oil in when i worked at fords. does quieten the engine down but i dont think it is recommended for these engines.

Sound deadening went back on and came back of within 10 mins cos i couldnt hear me dv lol

Just a thought, have you checked your tyres?

I had a tapping noise once, noticed it when accelerating and it turned out to be a pebble wedged in my tyre.

Took me a week before I worked that one out

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but aint much point starting a new one as its the same topic.

Just noticed over the past couple of days that my engines getting tappy, checked the oil the other day and it was on the minimum so i topped up and its all fine and sitting on the maximum. You can hear it on idle and its definatly coming from the under the rocker so i presure the tappets causing the noise, i checked the injectors aswel but there quiet. Its more noticable when driving, i can even hear it above the spool up sometimes, sounds like a dirty diesel lol, its not very loud but i cant help but hear it now lol. I can think of 2 things to eliminate it: 1, replace tappets and 2, use thicker oilBuy Cheap World of Warcraft GoldWOW Goldcheapest wow goldWOW GoldBuy WOW GoldIdeas lads?

Myki why would you want to use thicker oil? Standard oil for us is 5w 30 (costs way too much btw) but if you go with thicker oil that won't get everywhere it is supposed to.....

As for the ticking sound I read the thread and your explenation, but I have trouble understanding what you mean. Many of the descriptive words for the parts are so different as to what we use in Dutch that I wouldn't know what you are talking about.
However if you can hear it above the spool then it gets annoying. I also know what you mean by "I can't help but hear it now" I have that too....whenever something sounds different as it always did bothers me like crazy until it stops lol!
